Ch. 1140 pp.16–17 — Shamrock recalled to the Holy Land
Commander Shamrock , on Elbaf visiting “Harald’s grave,” is ordered back to the Holy Land (“your presence there will be a benefit, Shamrock”), which has been dire “ever since the Reverie .” Develops Shamrock’s standing/movements without touching the guarded Figarland→Shanks blood reveal. (Separately, Ch. 1140 ties Shanks to Scopper Gaban via the Roger crew — a distinct Shanks thread.)
Ch. 1138 p. 3 — Shamrock names Shanks his estranged younger TWIN brother
In Elbaf’s Underworld, Loki baits the red-haired Holy-Knight commander for looking like “that red-haired pirate.” Figarland Shamrock answers: “That pirate is my estranged younger twin brother … He returned to the Holy Land once, but he seems to prefer the filth of the lower world.” First on-page assertion of a literal blood tie between Shanks and the Figarland line — the visual-double from 1137 is now explained as twinhood. Loki, wrathful at both twins, retorts “your bloodline has earned my ire twice over… two separated brothers should each be targets of my wrath.”

The Holy Knights’ Commander is revealed as Figarland Shamrock son of St. Garling (Five Elders) — and is drawn as a near-double of Shanks (red hair, sword at the hip). Ch. 1136 — Shanks captured Loki at sea; the Holy Knights arrive at Elbaf

Ch. 1131 pp. 8–11 — Shanks personally visited the chained Prince Loki at Elbaf
Shanks came to Elbaf in person to see the chained Prince Loki , who disparages him as “that coward of a pirate” and rages at the reminder, snapping his chains taut (pp. 8–11). A Yonko making a personal trip to the imprisoned giant prince — and Loki’s open contempt — deepens the Shanks / Elbaf / Figarland question; Luffy presses Loki for the reason Shanks came.
Ch. 1125 pp.9–10 — Figarland Garling is seated among the Five Elders

Ch. 907 p. 17 — Shanks walks into Mary Geoise for a Five-Elders audience
Shanks is granted a personal audience with the Five Elders during the Reverie — “We only arranged this time on your request… Given your standing… why would you come all this way?” — and opens with “There’s a pirate I need to talk to you about…” An Emperor with privileged access to the World Government’s apex, a beat that later reads against his Figarland/elevated standing.
Ch. 506 pp. 16-17 — Shanks’s Roger-era origin + Sabaody meeting
Shanks was an apprentice pirate on the Roger Pirates ’ ship (with Buggy ). Rayleigh met him on Sabaody ~10 years ago — by then his trademark straw hat and left arm were already gone (post-Foosha) — pinning a concrete point on Shanks’s pre-Yonko timeline.
Ch. 434 — Shanks is from West Blue; scar history paid off
Shanks brings wine “from West Blue… a wine from my hometown” (p. 8) — first on-page statement of his birth-sea. Also pays off the Ch. 4 flag prop-tell: his three eye-scars were given by Blackbeard , not Mihawk (pp. 11-12). Reconfirms his Roger-Pirates-apprentice origin (with Buggy ) and frames his Ch. 1 arm-loss as deliberate (“for the sake of the new era”). Cross-link Shanks Gave His Arm For The New Era .
Ch. 19 — first on-page young Shanks (Roger Pirates apprentice)
First in-series appearance of young Shanks. A Roger Pirates cabin-boy alongside Buggy ; already wearing the straw hat, both arms intact, no facial scars (Blackbeard scars do not exist yet — paid off ~Ch.434). Major artifact for the steward read of Joy Boy Identity : the hat is on Shanks’s head as a teenager on Roger’s deck , decades before the Ch.1 handoff to Luffy. Shanks is not the hat’s source; he is, even at this age, its carrier. Roger’s crew is the chain-of-custody link between Joy Boy’s original ownership and Luffy’s eventual receipt. Cross-link the Wano (Ch.0966-968) and Egghead (Ch.1055) hat-vault sequences for the full steward arc.
Behavioral seed: young Shanks already does the rescue thing — dives in to save a drowning Devil Fruit user (Buggy, p.18). The pattern repeats in Ch.1 with the Lord of the Coast and Luffy. The willingness to lose something major (arm, life, status) to pull a sinking friend out of the water is Shanks’s load-bearing character trait, set here and not at Ch.1.
Ch. 18 (Shanks’s pre-Yonko apprenticeship surfaces)
Buggy reveals he and Shanks worked on the same pirate ship
as young apprentices (p. 18). Establishes — for the first time on-page —
that Shanks’s pre-Yonko career was as an apprentice , not as a founding
captain. This is the upstream evidence the Figarland-origin thread builds
on: Shanks’s path runs foundling → apprentice pirate → Yonko , not
founder → Yonko .
Ch. 17 — page 21 (the hat is Shanks-identifiable to strangers)
Buggy looks at Luffy’s straw hat and instantly identifies it as belonging to a young red-haired pirate (“him”). The hat is the recognition-trigger, not the boy under it. First on-page demonstration that the hat itself is a multi-generational identity-marker — strangers who knew Shanks can read the hat across decades. Reinforces the steward, not owner framing for Shanks’s relationship to the hat — Shanks “had” the hat when he was Luffy’s age, and Luffy now “has” it. The pattern that pays off at the Five Elders’ hat-vault (Ch. 1055) operates on the same identity-marker logic as this Buggy panel. The hat is legible to anyone who knew the previous bearer.
Ch. 9 — page 13 (first re-statement of the hat’s origin)
Luffy’s first re-statement of the hat’s origin to a stranger (Nami). The
phrasing — “a friend gave it to me a long time ago” — establishes the
steward framing that becomes load-bearing for the Joy-Boy-hat reveal.
Read forward: Luffy never says “Shanks gave me this hat as a present”; he
says it was given with a return condition. The stewardship is in the

Ch. 4 page 20 — bonus flag page (“Make Your Own Original Pirate Flag!”)
Shanks’s jolly roger is published with three eye-scars on the left side as part of Oda’s canon flag-design tutorial, with crossed swords replacing the crossbones. The scars are the same three Blackbeard would later be revealed to have given him (paid off Ch. 434 ). The detail is canonized in Ch. 4 — before Blackbeard is even introduced (Ch. 222+) and 430 chapters before the scar-history reveal — confirming Oda had the Shanks/Blackbeard scar history mapped from the very beginning. Shanks gives his straw hat to 7-year-old Luffy with the binding promise:
