Summary

The Summit War rages on. The Navy unleashes roughly twenty Pacifista “PX” human weapons — drones built in Warlord Bartholomew Kuma’s image, “experimental” creations of Dr. Vegapunk — which blast the field indiscriminately, “killing friend and foe alike,” to corner the pirates and keep them from reaching the execution plaza. Whitebeard recognizes the trap: the Marines mean to seal his forces inside the iced-over bay, which is why “Pops” had earlier ordered the wing-warships destroyed; his division commanders (Marco among them) move to break the line as the Navy briefly pulls back. Kizaru intercepts the spent Luffy (“time to send you back to the starting line”), but Jinbei shields and hauls him clear; Hancock urges him on. Mihawk and Whitebeard’s swordsman Vista cross blades (“we should settle this later, Vista!”), and a Marine taunts 10th-Division leader Curiel. Sengoku orders the global broadcast cut so Ace’s execution can be moved up and all pirates captured at once — but Impel Down escapees have hijacked one video transponder snail, keeping a single feed live. On it the world sees Buggy, outed as a legendary crewmate of Gold Roger and blood brother of Yonko “Red-Haired” Shanks; cut apart by Mihawk yet whole again (the Bara Bara no Mi), he hams it up for the camera. The chapter closes on the war’s first treachery: allied captain “Whirl Spider” Squard, sweat-soaked and weeping, drives his sword clean through Whitebeard’s chest.

New reveals

  • ~20 Pacifista deployed at Marineford. Onlookers and Marines call them “Warlord Bartholomew Kuma!!” then realize “they all look like Kuma” — they are Dr. Vegapunk’s “experimental drones” / “human weapons.” They “[kill] friend and foe alike,” and the watching crowd asks “Are they immortal?! It’s like they’re not even human!” (pp. 2, 6, 8).
  • The bay is a trap. Whitebeard sees the Navy means to “trap us in the bay” and notes “this is why Pops told us to destroy the warships on the sides” — the wing-fleets are knocked out, but the Marines “can still attack from the front and the rear.” “Proceed as planned and aim for the pirates!!” (pp. 2-3).
  • Sengoku’s plan to escalate. Sengoku: “Then we will execute Ace… and capture all the pirates at the same time!! After the broadcast has been cut… activate the encirclement wall!” “Let’s go!!” The broadcast must die before the wall closes (pp. 4, 8).
  • Kizaru vs. Luffy. An admiral with sunglasses (Kizaru) strikes the exhausted Luffy — “It’s time to send you back to the starting line.” Jinbei catches him; Luffy, near collapse, gasps “Ace is in danger! I gotta hurry!” (pp. 8-9).
  • Vista named; Curiel named. Mihawk crosses swords with the Whitebeard swordsman Vista (“We should settle this later, Vista!”), and a Marine challenges “Curiel, leader of 10th Division!” — two division commanders named on-page (pp. 11).
  • Buggy’s secret goes worldwide. A video transponder snail seized by the Impel Down escapees keeps one broadcast live, showing Buggy: “the legendary crewmate of Roger and blood brother of ‘Yon Emperor’ Red-haired Shanks!!” “He kept his identity a secret until now!!” Buggy, nosebleeding and preening, confirms it: “It’s me. That’s right.” (pp. 12-14).
  • Buggy survives being cut apart. “You just got cut to pieces by ‘Hawkeye’ Mihawk and now you’re fine?! Who are you?!” — the Bara Bara no Mi leaves him unharmed, baffling the watchers (p. 14).
  • Squard betrays Whitebeard. “Whirl Spider” Squard, a Whitebeard-allied New World captain (“I dedicated my life to the Whitebeard Pirates long ago”), embraces “Pops” then — tearful and sweating — runs him through with his sword (pp. 15-17).
