Profile
The West-Blue pirate crew Laboon waited 50 years for at the Twin Cape. Not named in Ch. 104 — the chapter only refers to them as “the pirates he came here with” / “those guys” / “the pirates who left you in my care”. The crew-name Rumbar Pirates is forward-canonical (Thriller Bark, ~Ch. 488) and is used here for routing-and-cross-reference purposes only.

Ch. 104 establishes
- West Blue origin (Crocus, page 11): “His home is the West Blue, which lies on the other side of the Red Line.”
- Entered the Grand Line ~50 years before Ch. 104 (page 5): “It’s been 50 years now. Those guys said they’d be back in a couple of years.”
- Promised to return for Laboon, never did (page 8): “those pirates who left you in my care… have fled the Grand Line. But they’re never coming back.”
- Implicitly dead (Sanji’s articulation, page 5): “They’re dead. He’ll be waiting for them till the end of time.” (Crocus confirms the fled-the-Grand-Line register but leaves dead uncertain in his own voice.)
Forward-payoff
At Thriller Bark (~Ch. 488), the lone surviving member, Brook, will be revealed to be a Rumbar Pirate. The Ch. 104 install is the single longest-burn seed in the East-Blue-to-Alabasta transition — ~384 chapters seed-to-payoff. The crew’s name itself (Rumbar) is on-page-pending until that reveal.
- Ch. 442 — Brook’s on-page debut as the lone living skeleton of a ghost ship in the Florian Triangle, singing “Binks’s Brew.” His membership in this crew is not yet revealed on-page — recorded here as the arc’s opening beat, not a confirmation.
- Ch. 443 — Brook’s backstory comes partly on-page (still without the crew name): he was his crew’s musician (p. 15); the crew rode the ship he now drifts on and “entered this accursed sea,” where they met “some very powerful pirates” and all died decades ago (p. 6); Brook alone returned via the Yomi-Yomi no Mi (Revive-Revive Fruit). These details are consistent with the forward-canonical Rumbar identity, but the crew is NOT named in 443 — the name remains on-page-pending.
- Ch. 456 — Brook confirms on-page that he is the last survivor of his ship and vows to “fulfill the pact I made with a friend,” corroborating the lone-survivor status of his late crew (pp. 4, 6). The crew is still not named “Rumbar” on-page this chapter — recorded as corroborating inference, not on-page confirmation. See Laboon’s Crew Will Return Promise.
- Ch. 459 — Brook gives the first substantial on-page account of the crew (still unnamed — he says only “our band of pirates”): they “died off in these waters” ~50 years ago, leaving an unfulfilled promise to return to a friend at a cape (pp. 8-10). The crew’s friend is identified on-page as Laboon (p. 9), confirming this is the West-Blue crew Laboon has waited 50 years for at the Twin Cape. A flashback shows the crew playing cheerful music as they leave baby Laboon behind (“he was still a baby whale at the time, and we couldn’t take him with us on such a dangerous voyage”), vowing “We’ll definitely be back!” (p. 10). The crew is still not named “Rumbar” on-page — recorded as corroborating recountings, not on-page confirmation of the name. - Ch. 486 — The crew name “Rumbar Pirates” and “Captain Yorki” are both SPOKEN on-page for the first time in Brook’s flashback (pp. 18-19), which shows the crew finding the baby Laboon and playing music for him.
- Ch. 487 — The full Rumbar flashback. The crew name “Rumbar Pirates” is spoken in full by Captain Yorki — “We’re the Rumbar Pirates, remember?! We bring smiles to kids’ faces!!” (p. 17) — and the captain’s full name Calico Yorki is given (p. 9, rising “DEAD OR ALIVE — YORKI” bounty p. 16). The flashback shows the crew’s heyday — adopting the baby Laboon, the Twin Cape Promise (pp. 4-11) — and the beginning of the end: a jungle plague infects a dozen incl. Yorki, who splits the crew and departs the Grand Line via the Calm Belt (pp. 17-19). “Binks’s Brew” is named as the crew’s anthem (pp. 18-19). Thriller Bark — the death revealed (Ch. 488)
- Crew name spoken on-page again (pp. 10, 18) — “the Rumbar Pirates’… once-in-a-lifetime performance!!!”; “Let’s hear it for the Rumbar Pirates, the crew that can make even crying kids laugh!!” Captain Yorki referenced (p. 5); he had already split off via the Calm Belt and is NOT among the dead shown here.
- Cause of death: in their final battle the enemy’s weapons were poisoned; the ship’s doctor died too; the whole crew was annihilated — “so this is what’s called an annihilation” (p. 8).
- The last performance: dying, the crew records “Bink’s Sake” on a Tone Dial as their message to Laboon — “nobody’s allowed to die until we finish the song!!!” (p. 10). The band dies one player at a time, “quartet → trio → duet → solo,” Brook playing the last solo over the corpses (pp. 16-18). Full lyrics shown (pp. 14-15).
