Ch. 114 p. 10 — Vivi as
princess declaring war on Baroque Works to save her country — first princess-identity-as-combat-doctrine
Miss All Sunday explicitly frames Vivi in the princess-of-the-people structural-protagonist register (“A princess declaring war on Baroque Works to save her country… how pathetic!!!” ). Vivi’s response (“DON’T UNDERESTIMATE US!!!” ) is the first on-page princess-as-combat-doctrine beat. This is the chapter where the Nefertari-Vivi-Princess-of-Alabasta identity (named Ch. 110) first activates as a war-fighting role , not just a hidden identity. The surname Nefertari is the throne-name of an actual Egyptian queen — Nefertari Meritmut , the principal great-wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II (reign c.1279-1213 BCE), one of the most powerful royal women of the New Kingdom. The Egyptian nfrt-jrj literally means “the most beautiful” / “beautiful companion.” Her tomb in the Valley of the Queens is among the most lavishly decorated burial sites in Egyptian history.
Ch. 113 pages 7-9 — Vivi as active counter-agent; first kingdom-history exposition
Vivi narrates the entire Baroque-Works counter-intelligence operation in her own voice (pages 7-9). The princess-of-the-people register (“I’ve got to return to my land and stop the rebellion before my people throw themselves into Baroque Works’ clutches” , page 8) is the first on-page Vivi-as-active-counter-agent canonization — not a passive royal-target. The Lily-lineage encoding pre-loaded by the Nefertari surname (Ch. 0110) gains here its first on-page agency-tell : Vivi is the Nefertari who acts to defend the line from external conquest . LOAD-BEARING SEED-ANCHOR: Vivi’s true name Nefertari Vivi uttered on-page for the first time; Princess of Alabasta canonized
Miss Valentine’s reveal panel (page 15): “NEFELTARI VIVI!!! THE PRINCESS OF ALABASTA…” This is the first on-page utterance of the surname Nefertari in the entire series — the seed-anchor for the entire name-encoding foreshadowing. Vivi’s reaction (“YOU FIEND!” ) confirms. Critical correction : prior to Ch. 0110, the surname Nefertari was NOT canonical on-page text — only the cover-alias Ms. Wednesday and the first-name Vivi (implied via dialogue in Ch. 109’s Mr. Bushido exchange — but the surname was not voiced). The name-encoding foreshadowing cannot be readable from any chapter prior to 0110 — it requires Miss Valentine’s reveal panel to anchor. Per the Vol. 17 SBS, Oda picked the name without knowing the Egyptian-queen meaning — but accepted it retroactively as canon , locking the royal-Egyptian lineage encoding to the Vivi-line from this chapter forward. The grammar of the reveal — antagonist tells the audience the protagonist-ally’s identity via a held-up photograph — is the same vehicle Imu later uses to broadcast the I want Vivi obsession (Ch. 1179) and to deface Vivi’s bounty poster (Ch. 906): the photograph-as-identity-reveal-instrument is structurally pre-installed here at the moment of first-naming.
Ch. 109 —
Vivi’s Baroque-Works combat-disguise literally encodes her royal-Alabasta identity in plain sight
In her first on-page combat-encounter (in Ms. Wednesday disguise), Vivi’s wardrobe (bullseye-spirals, royal-vanity heraldry) and named attacks (Peacock Slasher with peacock-feather throwing-blades; Vertigo Dance hypnotic-spinning attack) are all royalty-coded iconography . A careful reader can decode her secret identity from the aesthetic of her combat-disguise alone — the disguise is meant to obscure her name but it broadcasts her status . This parallels the Nefertari-name technique: just as the surname Nefertari encodes queen-of-queens lineage centuries before payoff, the Ms. Wednesday combat-aesthetic encodes princess of Alabasta status chapters before her real-identity reveal . Ch. 107 — Vivi’s on-page debut in cover-persona at the Whisky Peak welcome-trap
Vivi appears in her Miss Wednesday disguise inside Baroque Works (pages 6, 8-9, 11). The chapter is the practical on-page entry-point for the Vivi-as-Imu-target arc — the layered-disguise composition (princess → Miss Wednesday → covertly subordinate to her own royal-guard-captain disguised as Mr. 8 Igaram ) is the narrative-debut staging of the Nefertari-lineage-undercover register. The princess and her bodyguard-captain are operationally inside Baroque Works at the level of Mr. 8 + paired Miss Wednesday — a two-person infiltration that bears the full weight of the eventual I-want-Vivi obsession 1000+ chapters later.

CORRECTION (2026-05-17) : Vivi’s first on-page panel is in Ch. 0103 under the Baroque-Works alias Miss Wednesday (p. 8, narration box: “MYSTERY WOMAN MS. WEDNESDAY” ). The surname Nefertari is not yet uttered in this chapter, nor in 0104, 0105, 0106, 0107, 0108, or 0109. The royal-Egyptian etymology is not yet decodable from this chapter alone — the name-encoding foreshadowing requires the Ch. 0110 Miss-Valentine reveal panel to be readable. Ch. 0103 is the person-first-appears anchor; Ch. 0110 is the name-first-uttered anchor; both are seed-chapters with distinct foreshadowing functions. Vivi enters Baroque Works under the pair-coded codename Ms. Wednesday
Ch. 103 introduced Vivi as Princess Nefertari Vivi of Alabasta in main text; Ch. 104 reveals (to the in-world Baroque Works grammar, but not yet to the reader) that Vivi is operationally embedded in Baroque Works as the undercover agent Ms. Wednesday . The disguise / undercover register is itself a foreshadowing-pre-load for the Alabasta-royal-princess-infiltrating-the-organization-targeting-her-kingdom dual-identity that drives the entire Alabasta arc. The disguise-revelation pays off ~Ch. 113-114 (Whisky Peak / pre-Little Garden), with the full Crocodile / Alabasta plot lock-in following.
Ch. 106 — Vivi’s deep-cover
Ms. Wednesday debut on the Going Merry
The Vivi-name-as-foreshadowing install operates in the background of this chapter: Vivi is on-page as Ms. Wednesday with no royal markers (page 10 self-introduction “And I’m MS. WEDNESDAY.” ), but the Nefertari surname has already been planted in Ch. 103. From the reader’s perspective at Ch. 106, Ms. Wednesday is a quirky stranger; from the foreshadowing-machine’s perspective, the Egyptian-queen-named princess is now in the same physical frame as the protagonist crew . The seed-payoff geometry begins here — the name lies dormant under the codename through Ch. 106-113, then reactivates at the Ch. 114 Whisky Peak reveal. The given name Vivi is a doubled-syllable pet-name in the Alabastan / Nefertari-D. naming pattern (cf. her ancestor Nefertari D. Lily — flower-pet-name structure; cf. Cobra — animal-name; cf. Titi — Vivi’s mother, doubled-syllable). The doubled-name across the lineage is itself a name-signature of the Nefertari D. Family .
The payoff
Ch. 1085 — Nefertari D. Lily revealed as the missing 20th king who refused to ascend
Vivi is canonized as the modern-era heir of Nefertari D. Lily — the Void-Century-era queen who, eight hundred years ago, defied the WG by refusing to take the Empty Throne after the founding twenty kings established the World Government. The Egyptian-queen name Nefertari now reads as a lineage-of-queens marker — the name predicts the bloodline.
Ch. 1179 — Imu’s stated obsession: “I want Vivi”
Imu (the silhouette on the Empty Throne, likely a Void-Century-era figure preserved by means yet unrevealed) declares Vivi as a personal target — not merely a politically inconvenient witness. The ‘most beautiful queen’ name now reads as encoding the specific person Imu cannot forget across 800+ years. Vivi is plausibly the reincarnation, the descendant-vessel, or the visual-double of Lily — and the Nefertari name was the early seed.
Earliest known caller
Egyptian-reference readers identified the Nefertari = real-Egyptian-queen layer from the Alabasta-arc launch (early-to-mid 2000s, pre-Wiki-era One Piece communities). The Lily-lineage-foreshadowing call required the Ch. 906 Imu-gazes-at-portrait beat (~2018) and the Ch. 1085 Lily reveal (~2023) to crystallize. The strongest-form prediction (Vivi-as-Imu-target encoded in her name ) became a popular-tier theory only after Ch. 906 — Reddit r/OnePiece had Imu/Lily/Vivi-lineage threads inside the first month after the Reverie portrait reveal.
Why this matters
This is Oda’s lineage-name-as-multi-decade-foreshadowing playbook in its purest form. The seed was planted in Ch. 103 (1999) and the payoff didn’t begin until Ch. 906 (2018) — a nineteen-year burn. The technique:
Pick a real historical royal name with documented status (Nefertari = queen of Ramesses II).
Apply it to a minor-arc princess whose narrative function in that arc is structural, not climactic.
Build the lineage-payoff in separate, much-later arcs (Reverie, Final Saga) using the queen-history layer to motivate the obsession.
Generalization: when a One Piece character has an unusually historically-specific name (Nefertari, Figarland, Garling), the name itself is the foreshadowing of a much-later lineage/role reveal. Test all newly-introduced royal-tier names against (a) real historical royal lineage, (b) Void-Century-era resonance, (c) Imu-/WG-obsession proximity. The Nefertari case is the gold-standard for the name was the spoiler all along .

A reader explains to Oda that Nefertari means “the most beautiful” in ancient Egyptian — historically the title attached to portraits of queens and princesses (most famously Queen Nefertari Meritmut, wife of Ramesses II). Oda’s stunned response: “I see… Is that what it means? Nice. I most certainly used ancient Egypt as a model for Arabasta, so I just flipped through a book about Egypt and picked out names that sounded nice. I see… I picked out a good name.” The naming was a happy accident for sound, but Oda accepts the queen-lineage etymology canonically . This means the much-later Nefertari D.
