- Erumaru (エルマル) — Egypt/Arabic-coded coinage within the Alabasta naming chamber. Most plausible reading is a phonetic riff on the Egyptian *El-* / Arabic *Al-* definite-article prefix common in Maghreb and Levantine toponyms (cf. El-Alamein, Al-Mahalla, El-Mansoura), combined with a *-malu / -maru* suffix register. No Oda SBS confirmation; the kingdom-wide Egyptian/Arabic phonetic palette is the load-bearing signal. The city's epithet *the Green City* (Green-Town) is the load-bearing thematic register — a green oasis-town reduced to dust, the visual-thesis exemplar of Crocodile's drought-engineered destruction.

Profile
A formerly-prosperous oasis city in the Alabasta interior, known as the Green City. Town of Alabasta marked on Vivi’s regional map (Ch. 160 p. 5) along the route between the Strawhats’ Sandora-bank landfall and Yuba. As of Ch. 161 (the Strawhats’ first visit), Erumalu is a drought-ruined ghost-town: dust-blown, half-collapsed, abandoned. The city is the chapter’s visual thesis — five-plus pages of walking-tour through the ruins establish what Baroque Works’ engineered drought has done to Alabasta. Closes on a hanging gallows-skeleton tableau (Ch. 161 p. 18) — the time-has-passed register re-keyed for political collapse.
Etymology
Erumalu (エルマル) — name does not map cleanly to a single source language; possible Arabic/Aramaic al-amal (hope) — the bitter inversion of the city’s current state; or a phonetic gesture toward Eridu (the legendary first Sumerian city) given the Green City turned ghost-town register. The Green City epithet directly inverts the chapter’s visual reality — the name encodes what the city was, not what it is.
