- **Chapter title — *Chapter 162: Adventure in the Kingdom of Sand*** (p. 1). The arc-titling shifts from the Drum-Island *Kingdom of Snow* register (Ch. 134-156) to the **Kingdom of Sand** register. First on-page in-chapter Strawhat-set-foot-in-Alabasta beat — the Ch. 113 conquest-of-Alabasta seed is now operationally cashed.
- **Sandora Desert visually debuts** (pp. 2-5) — vast dune-fields under blazing sun; thousand-foot dunes (Vivi p. 4: *'The biggest dunes are over one thousand feet high.'*); the crew is reduced to silhouettes on the dune crests with sweat-line *SSS...* lettering filling the empty white space. **First on-page Alabasta interior — the desert-set-piece replaces the snow-set-piece.**
- **Sanji is *out of sweat*** (p. 3) — the cook's heat-tolerance is *not* infinite; the heat threshold for the chef-of-the-Baratie is named on-page. *'I'm out of sweat.'* / *'Haa... I'm so hot...'*
- **Chopper's fur is the wrong climate for the desert** (p. 3) — Vivi/Sanji ask *'Why don't you take it off?'* / *'It's your fur.'* Chopper: *'I can't go on. I can't take the heat. I'm adapted to the cold.'* The Drum-Island reindeer-doctor is now physically mis-cast in the Alabasta arc — pre-loads the climate-mismatch comic-suffering register that runs the desert arc.
- **Vivi is heat-adapted — *'This is my home. I'm used to the heat.'*** (p. 3). First on-page Vivi-as-Alabasta-native register inside the kingdom proper; *'The heat doesn't seem to be getting to you as badly, Vivi.'*
- **Vivi's *Ancient Desert* line** (p. 4) — *'This is an ancient desert.'* — the Sandora desert is canonized as **ancient** (geological-tier old, not merely arid). First on-page hint that Alabasta's desert is **pre-historic / Void-Century-era terrain**, not modern desertification. Pre-loads forward-canon poneglyph-archaeology and the *kingdom-built-on-ancient-ruins* register.
- **Water-rationing rule canonized** (p. 4) — Vivi: *'Just a sip, Luffy. Just enough to wet your lips.'* Luffy *SHLORP*-drinks an entire water-skin (*'13 gulps just now!!'*) and triggers a Sanji-Luffy-Usopp water-fight that wastes a third of a day's supplies.
- Yuba
- **Crags rest-stop** (pp. 6-7) — Luffy loses at rock-paper-scissors and is made to drag the supply-sled (*SHWUFF... SHWUFF...*); the crew reaches a sandstone outcrop with deep shade-overhangs. *'Ahh, shade!! It feels so good!!'*
- ***Evil Herons* — fake-dying con-artist desert-pirate birds — debut as Alabasta's first on-page desert-fauna threat** (pp. 7-9). Luffy spots dying-bird ground-vultures (*GRAAK... GRAAK...*) and orders Chopper to help; the birds *con* the crew, steal **all three days of supplies** (*'GIVE US OUR STUFF BACK!!!'*, p. 10), and fly off intact. Vivi: *'Those are the Evil Herons. They're desert pirates that trick travelers and steal their supplies. I should have warned you about them.'* (p. 8). **First on-page named Alabasta-native desert-fauna and first on-page Alabasta-style *desert-pirate* register (animals run pirate-style cons in this kingdom).**
- **Sandora River — *giant Sandora dragon* — debuts as desert-apex predator** (pp. 10-13). A monstrous lizard-form Sea-King-tier desert-creature (Sanji caption-names it: *'It's the giant Sandora dragon!!'*, p. 11) charges across the dune-line chasing a fleeing **camel**. Zoro one-cuts it with a triple-blade *Three Swords Style: Twister!! Whip!! Sprawl!!!* (pp. 12-13) — Sanji simultaneously kicks (*Dragon... Épaule!*) — the apex-predator is dropped in a single attack-stack. *'Sanji, can we eat this thing?'* / *'I think so.'* (p. 14). **First on-page Sandora River creature** and first on-page **named Sandora geography** (Sandora dragon → Sandora River system, the kingdom's river).
- ***Eyelashes the camel* — first on-page Alabasta mount-companion** (pp. 14-15). The dragon-fleeing camel turns out tame (*'It's got a saddle.'* / *'It's not wild.'*) and only offers rides *'to women'* (Chopper translating, p. 15). Vivi names him: *'I know, I'll call you 'Eyelashes.'* / *'That's the weirdest one yet.'* Eyelashes ditches Luffy/Sanji/Usopp/Zoro mid-desert (pp. 16-17) carrying only Vivi and Nami; the gender-discrimination camel is the chapter's running-gag mount.

Summary
Cover-art (p. 1): Django’s Dance Paradise, Vol. 28: “The Two Dancing Heroes, Baby” — Django dances center-stage with a second dance-partner under a FUNKY banner; the cover-arc reverts from Dance Heaven back to Dance Paradise and pre-loads a partner-introduction.
In-story (pp. 2-5), the Straw Hats — having been landed at the Alabasta coast off-page — are now in the Sandora Desert trudging toward the oasis-town of Yuba. Sanji is ‘out of sweat,’ Chopper is overheating in his fur (‘I can’t take the heat. I’m adapted to the cold.’), and Vivi alone is heat-adapted: ‘This is my home. I’m used to the heat.’ / ‘This is an ancient desert.’ / ‘The biggest dunes are over one thousand feet high.’ — the Sandora desert debuts visually and is canonized as ancient (geological-tier old, not merely arid). Vivi rations a single sip of water; Luffy SHLORP-drinks a full water-skin in 13 gulps, and the Sanji-Luffy-Usopp water-fight wastes a third of a day’s supplies.
At the rest-stop crags (pp. 7-9), the Evil Herons — fake-dying con-artist desert-pirate birds — play dead, get Chopper to ‘help them,’ then make off with all three days of supplies. Vivi: ‘Those are the Evil Herons. They’re desert pirates that trick travelers and steal their supplies. I should have warned you about them.’ Luffy chases them across the desert — only to draw out a giant Sandora dragon (pp. 10-13), a Sea-King-tier desert-apex predator chasing a fleeing camel through the dunes. Zoro one-cuts the dragon (Three Swords Style: Twister!! Whip!! Sprawl!!!) while Sanji kicks (Dragon… Épaule!); the apex-predator drops in a single attack-stack.
The fleeing camel turns out tame (‘It’s got a saddle.’ / ‘It’s not wild.’) and offers rides — but Chopper translates: ‘only to women.’ Vivi names him Eyelashes (‘That’s the weirdest one yet.’). Eyelashes promptly ditches Luffy/Sanji/Usopp/Zoro and races off with Vivi and Nami (pp. 16-17). Luffy eats cactus along with the dragon-meat and starts hallucinating crazy cactuses; Chopper sedative-darts him before he can ‘blow all of you away!!!’ — first on-page Chopper-as-combat-medic beat.
Sun-pass time-lapse (pp. 18-19): noon → setting → red-orb-on-horizon → black-disk-on-black-sky. Night brings below-freezing temperatures (‘It can get below freezing in the desert at night.’); the desert day-night temperature-inversion doctrine is canonized on-page. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger — Vivi ‘Something’s wrong!!!’ — the ground shaking, a possible light on the horizon, sand obscuring everything.
Back-matter (p. 20): Usopp’s Pirate Gallery fan-art feature with the ANCHOR-shirt Luffy and a Zoro-vs-Sanji who will win? debate piece.
New reveals
- Chapter title — Adventure in the Kingdom of Sand (p. 1). The arc’s chapter-titling pivots from the Kingdom of Snow / Drum register to the Kingdom of Sand / Alabasta register. The Ch. 113 conquest-of-Alabasta seed is now operationally cashed — the Strawhats are inside the target-kingdom.

Open questions raised
- What does the chapter-end cliffhanger portend? The ground-shaking, the light-on-the-horizon, the sand-storm haze — pre-loads the next chapter’s set-piece. Likely candidates: a Sandora-storm, another desert-creature incursion, or a sand-bandit/Baroque-Works ambush at the approach to Yuba.
- Who is the second dancer on the Django cover? The ‘two dancing heroes’ caption introduces a partner without naming them. Cover-arc forward-canon — most likely a recruited dance-partner for the contest-final phase.
- How extensive is the Sandora River system? The dragon’s Sandora prefix implies the river exists and is large enough to sustain Sea-King-tier reptiles, but the river itself has not appeared on-page yet.
- What’s in Yuba? Named on p. 5 as the immediate destination; the chapter ends before arrival. Vivi treats it as a reliable water-source (‘There’s water at Yuba.’).
- Will Eyelashes stay with the party? First desert mount-companion for the crew; running-gag only-rides-women template.
- Why is the desert ancient? Vivi’s ‘ancient desert’ throwaway-line on p. 4 is a soft tap for Void-Century / Poneglyph-era geological framing.
Specialist follow-ups
- etymology — Sandora (likely play on Sandstorm + Spanish/Italian sandora or Greek Pandora); Yuba (Japanese yuba = tofu skin, but more likely Arabic yuba / North-African oasis-naming); Evil Herons (English heron + evil — Alabasta-fauna nomenclature pattern); Eyelashes (English literal — Vivi’s pattern of plain-feature-naming, cf. Karoo = karoo a generic-mount sound); Épaule (French shoulder — continues Sanji’s French-kick-name register); Twister/Whip/Sprawl (Zoro’s English-named triple-attack — first non-Japanese named Zoro attack? worth verifying).
- is a recurring Oda time-passes composition (cf. forward-canon Sky Island, Wano, Egghead). Also: the con-artist faux-dying creature (Evil Herons) — does this beat mirror any forward-canon ruse (Crocodile’s hero-of-the-sand deception in particular)?
- cover-tracker — Django cover-arc reverts Dance Heaven → Dance Paradise and introduces a second dancer. Log the title-reversion and the partner-introduction; the partner’s identity is forward-canon-relevant for the Hina-unit pickup payoff.
- score-predictions — no open predictions in the Sandora-debut space yet. Candidate: Alabasta’s desert is built on Void-Century ruins (Vivi’s ancient desert line is a soft tap that pays off forward-canon at Alubarna’s Tomb of the Kings).
