The seed
Why it matters
The Erumalu walk-through is the environmental-storytelling that does the work of three exposition-pages in one image. The kingdom’s already-collapsed state pre-loads the saga’s urgency — the Strawhats are not racing to prevent a collapse, they are racing to reverse an active one.
Recurring Oda ghost-town walking-tour register (cf. Skypiea Shandian ruins, Wano Onigashima courtyards, Egghead ruins). The first city visited on-arrival-at-the-kingdom is a ruin is a saga-opening pattern Oda re-uses for high-stakes political-collapse arcs.
The gallows-skeleton tableau is a time-has-passed device — the deaths are old enough for the bodies to be reduced to skeletons in the open air, indicating Erumalu has been ruined for years, not weeks. This silently extends the Ch. 130 war-clock (300k defections, 3-day-old newspaper) into a deeper time-horizon — the kingdom has been collapsing for a long time and the war numbers are only the latest visible symptom.
