Chapter 113: It's All Right

Summary

Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine’s wax-Vivi attack-blast subsides; Sanji has intervened to save Vivi (the “Mister, that outfit really looks great” mistaken-identity beat carries forward from Ch. 0112). With the Officer-Agent pair temporarily disabled, Nami strong-arms a negotiation with Vivi — Vivi is grateful enough to spill everything she knows about Baroque Works in exchange for the Straw Hats’ help. Vivi confides that the organization’s true goal is to take over Alabasta, her home kingdom, and that she infiltrated Baroque Works to expose the boss. Pressed by Nami, Vivi blurts the secret: the boss is Sir Crocodile, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea — at which point the Unluckies (Mr. 13 + Ms. Friday) swoop in from the rooftops as the Mystery-doctrine internal-surveillance enforcers. Luffy intercepts the otter-and-vulture pair in a comic juggling-beat, neutralizing them before they can report. Igaram returns conscious — bandaged, bullseye-spiral jumpsuit splayed — declaring “I have a plan!”: he produces an Eternal Pose locked to Alabasta and explains the permanent-magnetic-coordinate mechanism, then disguises himself as Vivi (full wig + dress) and announces he will sail out on a decoy ship loaded with dummy-Vivi/Straw-Hat figures to divert Baroque Works’ agents while the real party takes the normal Log-Pose route to Alabasta. Vivi hands Igaram the Alabasta Eternal Pose; Igaram says “May we meet again in our homeland.” and sets sail. From the Whisky Peak beach the Straw Hats and Vivi watch his decoy ship vanish over the horizon — then it is blown to pieces by unseen Baroque Works fire. Chapter ends on a silent FWRRR… of smoke rising above the cactus skyline, with the Straw Hats stunned. • Sir Crocodile = Mr. 0 / Boss of Baroque Works — first on-page utterance of Crocodile in the series; first canonical naming of the Baroque-Works boss (Vivi, page 9 panel 2: ”…YOU’RE NO MATCH FOR SIR CROCODILE, ONE OF THE SEVEN WARLORDS OF THE SEA!!!”). Pays off the Ch. 0107 / 0109 Baroque-Works boss identity mystery seeds in full. Vivi also describes Crocodile as “very strong” and “one scary guy”; cites his pre-Warlord bounty at 80,000,000 berries — “four times what Arlong was worth” (Nami, page 14). Note: as a Warlord Crocodile has no current bounty (“there’s no bounty on the boss”, Vivi page 13).
• Baroque Works’ true objective is the conquest of Alabasta (Vivi, page 8 panel 9): “The true aim of Baroque Works is the conquest of Alabasta!!!” Forward-canon: Baroque Works has been fomenting riots and uprisings across Alabasta to weaken the kingdom from within ahead of a takeover (page 7).
• Vivi infiltrated Baroque Works to expose the boss (page 7-8): “I went to Igaram, who has looked after me since I was a child… I could then find out who was pulling the strings and learn his intentions. I hoped to find the source of the rumors… and infiltrate Baroque Works.” — first canonical motive for the Vivi/Igaram dual-undercover-agent operation. The deep-cover duration is unspecified but multi-year-tier.
• The deceiver doctrine (Vivi, page 8): “The boss deceives his minions with talk of an ideal country.” — Baroque Works agents believe they are building a utopia; the real mission is conquest. Membership-via-ideology-deception doctrine canonized.
• Eternal Pose named on-page for the first time — Igaram explains: “Princess, please give me the Eternal Pose of Alabasta. Simply put, it’s a permanent Log Pose. A normal Log Pose guides you from one island to the next along the Grand Line. But the Eternal Pose remembers one location forever. The magnetic coordinates of Alabasta are recorded in it. Sketch on the right shows a cut Ch. 98 scene of Usopp goggle-shopping in Loguetown (“YOU HAVE GOOD TASTE, THEY’RE THE LATEST NORTH BLUE GOGGLES” — shopkeeper). The goggles deflect light when Usopp makes his sniper attacks; he likes them because they flip up and down.
  • Q: Hello, Oda Sensei. I’m confused, so please clarify something. Is that thing you draw on Sanji’s chin a goatee or a shadow or what? If it’s a goatee, can I shave it? A: It’s a goatee! And no, you can’t shave it!! This is the end of SBS!!

Open questions raised

• Is Igaram actually dead? The chapter’s final-page composition is scripted to read as a confirmed-killed beat; the silent FWRRR + presumed-loss reaction-shots are emotionally definitive. Forward-canon: Igaram survives, but in-chapter this is left as a hard hook.
• What is the normal route to Alabasta vs. Igaram’s decoy route? Igaram says he’s never gone “that way” (page 15) — implying his decoy route is not the normal Log-Pose path. The Straw Hats’ Log-Pose-trajectory from here is now committed to the normal route (= the chapter’s lead-in to Little Garden as the next island).
• What is Baroque Works’ military capacity? Igaram’s decoy ship is destroyed immediately offshore, implying Baroque Works has either fleet-tier weapons or rapid-deployment officer-strike teams operating in the Whisky Peak / Cactus Island vicinity beyond Mr. 5 + Miss Valentine. (Forward-canon: the destruction is by Mr. 5 / Miss Valentine survivors + reinforcements; the Officer-Agent pair were knocked out, not killed, in Ch. 0112.)
• How does Vivi know Crocodile’s pre-Warlord bounty (80M)? Implies Vivi’s intelligence-collection inside Baroque Works was deep enough to reach the boss’s pre-Warlord profile. Pre-loads Vivi’s role as a strategic-information-broker in the Alabasta-saga proper.
• Will the Unluckies relay Vivi’s boss-secret-blurt? Luffy intercepts them mid-dive, but it’s not clear whether they had already signaled or sent any kind of telegraph. Forward-canon: the Unluckies do appear later — the chapter’s intercepted-relay is treated as successful blockage.
• What is the bullseye-spiral pattern on Igaram’s bandage-jumpsuit and the Igaram-as-Vivi disguise? The spiral-pattern recurs across the Baroque-Works visual-grammar (Mr. 9’s tights, Ms. Wednesday’s headband, Igaram’s bandages) — a faction-coded visual signature that may pre-load the Crocodile-Hook-spiral or other forward-canon Baroque-Works visual motifs.
