Reasoning

Four converging techniques across the Shanks-Figarland thread put this prediction at confidence 0.7:

• prop-tell + background-symbol (Ch 4 flag with three eye-scars, Ch 1 hat) — Oda canonized Shanks’s future scars on his flag in Ch 4, before Blackbeard even existed in the manuscript. The flag-design choice pre-loads the Shanks-is-fated-to-be-scarred reading, but the scarrer was always meant to be a category-villain — Blackbeard fills that role historically (Ch 434), not narratively in the endgame.
• panel-composition-mirroring (Ch 19, Shanks rescues drowning Buggy) — Shanks’s character-thesis is rescue-not-revenge. The Yonko-vs-Yonko combat grammar (Big Mom vs Kaido, Whitebeard vs Blackbeard) does not match Shanks’s installed character. His arc-climax will be a family beat, not a power beat.
• long-game (Ch 1134 twin reveal + SBS 114 Shamrock correction) — Oda corrected the Gorosei-meeting reveal to Shamrock, not Shanks, specifically to preserve Shanks’s free agency from the WG. The correction is a structural move: Shanks is being held aside for a specific Figarland confrontation that requires him to be non-aligned with the WG.
• partial-disclosure (Ch 1163 Garling-killed-Rocks) — moving Garling from “elder villain” to “on-page killer of a D-line patriarch” is the motive-installation. The Figarland-killed-the-Davy-line revelation retro-arms Shanks (Davy’s son? Adjacent? A foundling rescued at God Valley) with the avenger role in the Figarland-vs-D axis.

The four techniques cluster on the Figarland family is the load-bearing opposition for Shanks, not the Yonko collision. Confidence 0.7 because the specific endgame opponent could be Shamrock-by-proxy or the Holy Knights collectively rather than Garling individually.

Ch 1-100 verification: The Ch. 1-100 evidence chapters cited (Ch. 1 hat-handoff, Ch. 17-19 Shanks/Buggy texture, Ch. 18 Buggy-rescue) are all on-page and consistent with the prediction’s framing of Shanks’s character-thesis as rescue-not-revenge. The Ch. 19 Shanks rescues drowning Buggy panel does install the Yonko-vs-Yonko-combat-grammar-mismatch-with-Shanks’s-character basis that the prediction names. But the Figarland-civil-war register (Ch. 1054, 1086, 1134, 1163) is post-Ch. 100 evidence. Cannot be resolved with available evidence; status remains open.

**2026-07-25 *

Refuter-grep result: none of the four named refuters has fired. Shanks is alive; there is no Shanks-vs-Blackbeard resolution; Garling is un-killed and does not appear at 1188/1189; Shanks is not revealed as an Imu pawn. But Ch. 1189 supplies the first on-page beat where Shanks himself names the enemy, and it is a third party:

This is genuine movement against the prediction’s specificity, not its logic. The note’s thesis — that Shanks’s endgame is a family/WG-apex beat rather than the telegraphed Yonko collision — is untouched and arguably strengthened (Shanks is aiming above the Yonko tier entirely). What weakens is the Garling-individually clause: the sole Shanks-voiced war-target on the page is the King of the World (i.e. Imu), not the Figarland patriarch. The note already reserved this hedge at filing — “Confidence 0.7 because the specific endgame opponent could be Shamrock-by-proxy or the Holy Knights collectively rather than Garling individually” — and 1189 adds Imu-directly to that alternatives list.

Confidence 0.7 → 0.65.

Chapters 1188 and 1189 have been re-read from the official VIZ release, replacing the TCB fan-scanlation the 2026-07-25 entry was graded against. That entry’s evidence callout was partly contaminated and is corrected here.

Why this moves the number up. The 2026-07-25 cut rested on reading the scene as Shanks putting his own war-target on the board — a reading built on the fabricated “prepare for war” line. On the corrected page Shanks is doing something weaker and quite different: answering Loki’s revenge question with a culprit, then telling him to stand down because the target has never been reached by anyone. That is not a statement of Shanks’s final-arc opponent at all, so it presses far less on the Garling clause than the previous entry priced.

Why the restoration is only partial. The load-bearing observation still holds on VIZ text: given a full scene to name an enemy, Shanks names the King of the World, not the Figarland patriarch. A third candidate remains genuinely on the board — the note’s own filing hedge (“could be Shamrock-by-proxy or the Holy Knights collectively”) now also has to accommodate Imu-directly. Confidence 0.65 → 0.68, not back to 0.70.

Refuter-grep across the full window (1188–1192), unescaped-alternation: garling, figarland, shamrock, blackbeard, teach, mihawk → zero story hits. Shanks himself appears only in the 1189 flashback and as the subject of a reader-request cover Ch. 1190 p1 (art, not story). None of the four refuters has fired: Shanks is alive, there is no Shanks-vs-Blackbeard resolution, Garling is un-killed and absent, and Shanks is not revealed as an Imu pawn.
