Earliest known caller
Documented across One Piece long-read communities (Worstgen, OP Reddit, Library of Ohara) as one of the canonical examples of Oda’s “long-game prop-tells.” No single first-call attribution.
Why this matters
Canonical example of Oda’s long-game planning via prop-tells. Anything in a character’s flag / wanted-poster / wardrobe is plot-relevant. This single panel is one of the strongest pieces of evidence for the “Oda planned everything from chapter 1” thesis. Read in 1997, the three scars look like decorative line-work. Read in 2007 (post-Ch. 434), they’re a 10-year-old plot beacon.
- Treat every visual detail on a character’s symbol as canonical. Number of scars, weapon orientation, accessory placement — all are potentially plot-encoded.
- If a detail doesn’t match in-story canon yet, that’s a foreshadowing flag. Either the in-story state will update to match (Shanks’s scars), or the detail is hinting at backstory not yet revealed.
- Page-20 bonus content is not “filler.” Oda uses bonus pages to plant long-game tells specifically because readers under-weight them.
