Chapter 1145: Wildfire in Forest Sector 2, Branch Route 8

Summary

In the Elbaf Underworld, the Straw Hats and the New Giant Pirates nurse the chained, badly-wounded Prince Loki — the Holy Knights beat him “this badly,” and the giants assume he earned their revenge “rampaging beyond the sea.” Zoro (the “soaring broccoli”) and the giants hunt a huge beast, a “Groggy-saurus,” and cook it to feed the sulking prince, who is riddled with fresh burns as Luffy clumsily force-feeds him. Nami’s homie Zeus is recognized by a young giant, who recalls his father’s old expedition to vanquish Big Mom, where “that shield came to life.” Loki insists he wasn’t lying — he does know where Red-Hair is — but refuses to say until his last chain is unlocked. Prodded by Luffy (who met Red-Hair as a lad), Loki flashes back to his own boyhood: he idolized a fearsome pirate, begged “Take me with you!!,” was dismissed as a whelp, and — with young Newgate (Whitebeard) a subordinate in that crew — laments “I was born in the wrong era!!!” Above ground, a wildfire in Forest Sector 2 and a swarm of monsters conjured from a child’s imagination (Draugrs, ghosts, a Loki-shaped bogey) drive sleeping children toward the flames while the Holy Knight Gunko and a partner coldly watch for “emotion.” The giant firefighters’ sea-cloud hoses fail; the outcast child Collun rushes the kids clear; and Jinbei — arrived at last on Elbaf — hurls a wall of sea-cloud water with a “Sea Cloud Shoulder Throw” and douses the blaze. As the giants credit their “Guardian Deities” and Robin senses Jinbei nearby, a top-hatted, goggled Holy Knight reveals himself, purring that “the school isn’t the only place to find a perky child.”

• Loki beaten by the Holy Knights. The chained prince is covered in wounds; the giants say the Holy Knights (humans of the World Government) did it, and that Loki must have “given them reason to seek revenge when [he was] rampaging beyond the sea.” (pp. 7–8.)
• The Shanks bargain, restated. Loki knows where Red-Hair is, but will only tell once his last chain is unlocked — “why should I tell you, when you haven’t upheld your end of the bargain?” The giants doubt he’s telling the truth. (pp. 10–11.)
• Loki’s boyhood idol (flashback). Loki idolized a legendary pirate, begged “Take me with you!!,” and was rejected (“I didn’t come here to meet a whelp like you”). Young Newgate (Whitebeard) is a subordinate in that crew, told “Shut up, Newgate!! You don’t have to use a blade on a kid.” Loki: “I was born in the wrong era!!!” (pp. 11–12.)
• Elbaf’s Big Mom expedition. A young giant recalls his dad joining an expedition to vanquish Big Mom “way back years ago,” where a homie “shield came to life” — the giants recognize Nami’s Zeus as one of the “most exalted homies.” (p. 6.)
• Conjured-monster crisis. A wildfire (“Forest Sector 2, Branch Route 8”) and monsters “based on a child’s imagination” (Draugrs “like soldiers,” ghosts, a bogey “meant to be Loki”) menace Elbaf’s children; the Holy Knights watch for “emotion” (“they’ll wake up from the heat, wail and cry for their parents…”). • Collun the outcast. The giant child Collun saves the children — “the kids at school all hate me… but I think of them as my friends!!” (pp. 15–19.)
