Among the Blackbeard Pirates, crew members balk at having “to trust Aokiji’s word on this” (p. 10) — the first on-page hint that the ex-Admiral has given Blackbeard’s crew his “word.” Burgess answers, “Doesn’t that go for Shiryu too?” Seeds a future Aokiji–Blackbeard alignment.
