Name meaning
'Fullalead' is the VIZ rendering (@0925) of the Japanese name ハチノス (Hachinosu) = 蜂の巣, 'beehive / honeycomb' — also the Japanese idiom for riddling something with bullet holes (left 'full of holes like a honeycomb'). VIZ's 'Fullalead' puns on 'full of lead' (full of [bullet] lead), preserving that bullet-riddled sense. The island — a skull-shaped pirate haven serving as the Blackbeard Pirates' base — is modelled on real Golden-Age-of-Piracy havens: Tortuga (Haiti), Port Royal (Jamaica, repeatedly leveled by earthquakes — echoed in Teach's quake fruit), and New Providence (the Republic of Pirates' base, the historical Blackbeard's haunt). The giant skull may reference Skull Rock from Disney's Peter Pan.

Profile

The Pirate Island of Fullalead, a skull-shaped island in the New World that serves as the Blackbeard Pirates’ base (“a pirate’s paradise,” “Pirate Island”). First shown Ch. 925 (pp. 4-9) when Gecko Moria assaults its port with his zombie army, hunting “Teech” and Absalom; the crew’s ship-captain structure surfaces on-caption (Avalo Pizarro, Catarina Devon, Shiryu), and Blackbeard arrives mid-quake to invite Moria aboard.

Etymology

‘Fullalead’ is VIZ’s rendering of ハチノス (Hachinosu, 蜂の巣) = “beehive/honeycomb,” also the Japanese idiom for riddling something with bullet holes — VIZ’s name puns on “full of lead.” A skull-shaped pirate haven modelled on Tortuga, Port Royal, and New Providence; the skull may nod to Disney’s Peter Pan Skull Rock. Confidence high.

Notes

Etymology done (Hachinosu = “beehive” → “full of lead” pun; pirate-haven inspirations).
