What we know

Ch. 653 pp. 6-9 — the New World Log Pose has three needles (multi-route navigation by instinct)

An elderly fish-man navigator gives Nami a New World Log Pose with three needles, each tuned to a different island’s magnetic field. In the New World the currents, weather AND magnetic fields all shift, so a single-needle Log Pose “would be ruined”; one chooses a path “from among three courses, and it is your instinct alone that will prove the difference between life and death.” Rule of thumb: the more abnormally a needle swings, the more dangerous (anomalous) that island, because something is disrupting its field — only a truly experienced navigator can read the safest route from the tiniest needle-movements. The first-half Log Pose still resets in under half a day at a normal island (p. 6). The long-pre-loaded three-needle New-World pose (flagged Ch. 614) is here delivered on-page. Ch. 117 p.12: Little Garden = one-year Log-Pose reset canonized by Dorry (re-canonization). Dorry: ‘Little people who come to this island usually die before their log poses reset… A year on this island is more than puny humans can endure.’ First abnormally-long-reset island the Strawhats encounter. Foundational seed for the Log-Pose-reset-duration as world-building mechanic that recurs throughout the Grand Line — different islands have wildly different reset-durations, creating per-arc travel-time pressure (e.g., Skypiea’s brief reset, Alabasta’s standard reset). The Ch. 116 Brogy answer (ONE YEAR!) is here re-canonized with the lethality-doctrine attached: long resets kill humans through dinosaur/heat/hunger exposure.
Ch. 117 p.13: Eternal Pose introduced as Log-Pose alternative by Dorry — first non-Baroque-Works on-page utterance. Dorry: ‘Perhaps, with the eternal pose. But it’s set to our homeland, Elbaph.’ Dorry introduces the Eternal Pose (永久指針 eikyū-shishin) as a permanent-needle compass-instrument locked to a single destination, in contrast to the resetting Log Pose. Ch. 116 p.13: First explicit log-pose-reset-time canonization. Vivi asks Brogy: ‘On this island, how long does it take for a log pose to reset?’ — Brogy: ‘ONE YEAR!’. Installs that different islands have different log-pose-reset-times, and that some islands’ reset-times are pathologically long (one year here on Little Garden). The reveal pre-loads the Eternal Pose alternative-navigation toolkit that the Straw Hats eventually acquire to bypass long-reset islands. Ch. 105: First on-page naming and explanation of the Log Pose. Crocus, pages 6-7: “You’ve got to have a Log Pose if you’re going to sail the Grand Line. It’s a special compass that records magnetic fields.”
Ch. 105: A wrist-worn compass-instrument (housed in a glass-domed bracelet) that records the magnetic field connecting one Grand Line island to the next. The only viable Grand Line navigation tool — normal compasses fail because of abnormal magnetic fields radiating from the islands’ mineral-rich cores.
Ch. 105: Records the magnetic field of the current island; the needle then points toward the next island on the route. Crew sails until they reach the next island, the pose re-records, and the cycle continues across the seven Grand Line routes.
Ch. 105: Can be broken — Mr. 9 / Ms. Wednesday’s Log Pose is shattered by Laboon’s tail-swing (page 4). The broken Log Pose = stranded crew failure-mode is canonized.
Ch. 105: Crocus gifts his personal Log Pose to the Straw Hats as thanks for their care of Laboon (page 12: “Don’t panic. You can have mine as thanks for helping Laboon.”).
Ch. 113: Eternal Pose introduced on-page by Igaram (pages 14-15). “A normal Log Pose guides you from one island to the next along the Grand Line. But the Eternal Pose remembers one location forever. The magnetic coordinates of [a specific island] are recorded in it. No matter where you go, it always points to the same island.” — first on-page extension of the Log-Pose mechanism beyond the basic island-to-island recorder. The Alabasta Eternal Pose is handed physically from Igaram to the Straw Hats (page 16). Forward-pattern: every later Eternal Pose installation (Skypiea route, Zou pose, Whole Cake Island pose, etc.) re-keys to this chapter’s mechanism-install.
Ch. 114: The Eternal Pose is canonized on-page as a second, distinct navigation instrument from the Log Pose — a permanent-magnetic-pointer locked to a single specific island (vs. the Log Pose’s current-island-records-then-points-to-next sequential pointer). The Eternal Pose bypasses the Log Pose’s sequential route-walking. Miss All Sunday demonstrates by setting an Eternal Pose pointing to the island of nothing, one stop before Alabasta (p. 15).
Ch. 115 — First on-page post-Whisky-Peak Log-Pose-locks-onto-next-island visualization (p.7). Nami stares at the Log Pose on her wrist; the needle locks onto Little Garden as the next island after Cactus Island: “There’s no mistake!! After Cactus Island, the next island on our course is… that one!!”. Confirms the Log Pose resets per-island (Sanji on p.12: “This’ll keep me busy while the Log Pose resets”) — multi-day reset-time per island is the mechanism that forces multi-day stops on every Grand-Line island.
