Etymology

Burgess is likely after the real pirates Samuel Burgess and/or Josiah Burgess. The given name “Jesus” is the Spanish/Portuguese personal name Jesús (pronounced hey-SOOS), but Oda also keys it to Jesus Christ — supported by the pronunciation and by Burgess’s birthday, December 25 (Christmas), per the One Piece Wiki. New World — fruit named; mountain-throw (Ch. 1063)

• First on-page naming of his Devil Fruit: the Strong-Strong Fruit (VIZ caption, p. 12). Lifts and hurls an entire mountain at Law’s position during the Blackbeard ambush (“Wee ha ha ha!! This strong-strong power is unstoppable!!!”, pp. 12–13). A Heart Pirate remarks “He’s worth three billion for a reason!” (quote only — bounty not pinned).

Four Emperors saga — infiltrating the Revolutionaries (Ch. 803)
