Summary
The Summit War opens. Whitebeard’s quake power hurls a colossal tidal wave at Marineford’s bay — “the legendary beast” — and Admiral Aokiji answers with “Ice Age,” flash-freezing the entire bay (and the wave itself) into a continent of ice, stranding the pirate ships. “Aokiji!! You upstart!!” Whitebeard roars. With solid footing now beneath them, the Whitebeard Pirates’ division commanders charge across the ice toward the plaza while Marine cannons pound the frozen ships and shout “Destroy the Moby Dick!!” The Navy’s massed Vice Admirals draw their weapons (“It’s the Vice Admirals… of the Navy!”), a Whitebeard man jeers that this “makes the Buster Call look like a cakewalk,” and Tsuru is told to stay back. Dracule Mihawk fires the war’s first ranged strike — “the world’s most powerful sword slash” carving across the bay — telling Doflamingo he merely “want[s] to measure the true distance between that man and us.” Third Division Commander Diamond Jozu blocks it dead with his diamond body. Admiral Kizaru retaliates with a light barrage, “Yasakani Sacred Jewel,” and First Division Commander Marco deflects it with a giant blue flame, taking wing — “You can’t take our king this early in the game.” The clash of the war’s apex powers is fully joined.
New reveals
- Whitebeard opens with a tidal wave — his quake power throws a tsunami at the bay; a watcher labels it “the legendary beast” (pp. 3-4).
- Aokiji’s “Ice Age” freezes the whole bay — the tidal wave and the pirate fleet are locked into a continent of ice (“They’ve stopped our ships cold!” / “The whole bay’s frozen!”). Whitebeard: “Aokiji!! You upstart!!” (pp. 4-8).
- The frozen sea becomes a battlefield — Whitebeard’s commanders charge across it on foot; cannons target the Moby Dick (pp. 8-10).
- The Vice Admirals revealed in force — “It’s the Vice Admirals… of the Navy!” — the war’s mid-command tier draws steel (pp. 10-12).
- Mihawk’s measuring strike — “the world’s most powerful sword slash”; “I just want to measure the true distance between that man and us” (Whitebeard); Doflamingo: “Are you really going to fight?” (pp. 13-14).
- Diamond Jozu blocks it — “He stopped the world’s most powerful sword slash!” with his diamond body; Third Division Commander (pp. 14-15).
- Kizaru’s “Yasakani Sacred Jewel” — a light-bullet barrage (pp. 16-17).
- Marco’s blue flame — “It’s like a giant blue flame!” deflects an Admiral’s attack; Marco flies; First Division Commander; chess-king metaphor (pp. 16-17).

Open questions raised
- How long will Aokiji’s ice hold the bay, and does freezing the sea help the pirates (footing) more than the Navy intended?
- What is Marco’s blue-flame power — and Jozu’s diamond body — as Devil Fruits? (Both shown, neither named.)
- Was Mihawk’s “measuring” slash a one-off, or will he commit against Whitebeard’s side?
- How far will the Vice-Admiral wall and the gathered Warlords push the Whitebeard charge before it reaches the execution platform?
