Summary
Opening on a flashback to a lesson at the Former Navy HQ (“Lesson One”), Vice-Admiral Garp poses a trolley-problem — a marooned old man and a baby, a rowboat that holds only two — and overrules the recruits’ “all lives are equal” answer: the young have an infinite future, so you save the baby (p.3). Cutting to the present at Pirate Island Fullalead, Garp’s SWORD/Marine rescue squad is attacked by a colossal skull-island monster with grasping arms — the Devil-Fruit power of Blackbeard pirate Avalo Pizarro (pp.5-6). Rather than fight it himself, Garp hands his subordinates “an opportunity” to be heroes: Prince Grus to shield the ship, Koby to destroy the giant hand, Helmeppo to guard them (pp.6-7). A flashback shows Koby — talentless but tireless — punching battleship-bags until his fists bleed every night (p.13); on the spot he lands Garp’s signature “Impact” punch and splits the colossal arm (pp.15-17). Kuzan (Aokiji), now standing with the Blackbeard Pirates, looms over the scene ready to freeze any who flee (pp.9, 14). With the rescue of Koby complete, Garp orders the squad to retreat at full speed — and stays behind alone as Blackbeard himself emerges, laughing (pp.18). The closing newspaper reports the legendary hero Garp’s “disappearance” on Pirate Island, Koby’s safe return, and — alongside — Straw Hat Luffy barricaded on Egghead; Koby and Helmeppo are hailed as “the future of the Navy” (p.19).
New reveals
- Garp’s “Final Lesson”: in a Former-Navy-HQ flashback he teaches that when you can save only one life, the young’s infinite future outweighs the old man’s — “take the baby and make the most of all those years” (p.3). The title-doctrine that frames his own self-sacrifice this chapter.
- Avalo Pizarro’s Devil Fruit power, shown for the first time: he manifests/becomes a colossal skull-shaped island monster with arms large enough to crush a battleship (pp.5-6, 10-11). Fruit is NOT named on-page.
- Kuzan / Aokiji is physically at Fullalead with the Blackbeard Pirates — named on-page (“Whoa!! Kuzan!!!”, p.9) — enforcing the blockade (“if you try to flee to open water, Aokiji will freeze you!!”, p.14).
- Koby has learned Garp’s “Impact” technique and destroys Pizarro’s giant arm with it (pp.15-17); a flashback reveals he trains nightly, punching his fists bloody against “battleship bags” (p.13).
- Prince Grus wields a web technique, “Glorp Web,” to shield the battleship from the falling rubble (p.16); thanked as “Prince” (p.17).
- Weeks earlier at Amazon Lily, Koby (of SWORD) was traded into Blackbeard’s custody — the price he set on himself: a battleship and its 800 sailors for himself as captive (p.4).
- Garp confronts Blackbeard alone: he orders the squad to flee with Koby (“I’ll manage on my own!! …get away from the island, full speed!!!”), then Blackbeard appears (pp.18). The newspaper calls it Garp’s “disappearance” — fate left unresolved (p.19).

Open questions raised
- What is Garp’s fate after staying to face Blackbeard alone? “Disappearance” — captured, killed, or escaped? (→ Garp’s Disappearance at Fullalead)
- What is the name and mechanics of Avalo Pizarro’s island-class Devil Fruit?
- Why was Kuzan/Aokiji willing to stand against his old comrade Garp on Blackbeard’s side?
