Firsts
  • Aokiji's full on-page debut (face, body, powers): an ice-power Logia user who casts 'Ice Time' — freezing the sea, freezing Luffy's body, and earlier freezing Nico Robin solid
  • Aokiji spares Luffy and the crew because he 'owes him one' — 'You took care of Crocodile. Now we're even.' (NOT a debt to Garp; Garp is not mentioned this chapter)
  • Aokiji's parting warning: Nico Robin 'was born with a brutal personality... taking that woman on board your ship... is a great danger,' addressed to 'Monkey D. Luffy!' (full name with the 'D.')
  • Aokiji reads the Going Merry's Log Pose and names the crew's next destination: WATER SEVEN, 'the City of Water' — and notes it is 'quite close to Headquarters'
  • Aokiji mentions 'Smoker's silly message' (an undelivered message from Smoker), then waves it off ('See you later...')
  • Chopper confirms both Luffy and Robin survive — 'Both of their hearts... are beating!'

Summary

The Aokiji confrontation winds down. On the Going Merry, Chopper races to thaw the frozen-solid Nico Robin in the shower room while Nami rubs the affected parts — Aokiji had said Robin “is still alive” even completely frozen, but Chopper has “never seen a person completely frozen” before and fears she’ll crack if warmed too fast (pp. 2–5). Sanji and Usopp, furious that the crew left Luffy to fight the Admiral alone, lash out at Zoro (“You cowards! How could you?!”), who answers that Luffy demanded a one-on-one and that they should “just be prepared… for the worst” (pp. 6–7). Out on the ice-spiked battlefield, Luffy unleashes Gum-Gum Storm but Aokiji counters with “Ice Time,” flash-freezing Luffy’s whole body solid (pp. 8–11). With Luffy beaten and helpless, Aokiji declines to finish him: “If I lay a hand on you, I’ll be breaking my word… Right, Captain? I agreed to a one-on-one fight” (p. 12). The Admiral delivers a grave parting speech — Nico Robin “was born with a brutal personality,” “you will not be able to change that,” and “taking that woman on board your ship… is a great danger” — addressed directly to “Monkey D. Luffy!” (pp. 13–14). He explains he could “shatter you right here… and kill you effortlessly. But I owe you one,” then states the reason: “You took care of Crocodile. Now we’re even.” He half-mentions delivering “Smoker’s silly message,” then waves it off — “Oh… never mind about Smoker’s silly message. See you later…” (p. 15). Aokiji walks off across the ice and rides away on his bicycle, reading the Going Merry’s Log Pose: their next destination is “Water Seven… the City of Water,” which surprises even him (“Oh my… this is unexpected”) and which he notes is “quite close to Headquarters” (pp. 16–17). The crew rushes the thawed-out, unconscious Luffy back aboard; Chopper confirms both Luffy’s and Robin’s hearts are beating (pp. 16–18). They resolve to spend the night and let the two recover; Usopp finally relaxes. The chapter closes on Robin, awake and silent in her bunk while the others sleep, the Merry drifting on under starlight (pp. 18–20).
