Chapter 1087: Battleship Bags

Summary

A B-plot chapter set at Pirate Island Fullalead in the New World, away from Egghead. Exposition first establishes how Garp became a “hero”: at a battleship scrapyard near naval base G-1 he has spent decades punching armored battleship hulls — “battleship bags” — using no Haki and no powers, the strength of heroes “not gifted at birth.” A second bag was kept for his apprentice, former Admiral Aokiji. In the present, Garp’s elite rescue squad (SWORD officers Helmeppo, Hibari, Prince Grus) tears through the Blackbeard Pirates to free the captives and reach Koby; Garp knocks the giant San Juan Wolf clean into the sea and the pirates panic. Kuzan then physically bars Garp from leaving. A flashback shows young Kuzan begging Garp to train him while Garp gripes that his son (Dragon) is “a damn revolutionary” and his grandson (Luffy) wants to be a pirate — “consider yourself expelled… you raised a formidable foe.” Back in the present, the escape is a trap: the invisible Shiryu runs “Iron Garp” through with his sword. The wounded Garp orders the squad to run for the ship — but Avalo Pizarro demonstrates his Isle-Isle Fruit, warping the island into a colossal hand to crush the escaping Marine vessel and its civilians.
