Chapter 909: Seppuku

Summary

On Whitebeard’s home island in the New World, Cat Viper (Nekomamushi) and the Mink “Guardians” have tracked down Marco the Phoenix, who now serves as the village doctor. Marco explains that the island is the poor, World-Government-less country where the orphaned Whitebeard grew up and which he secretly funded his entire life; Red-Hair Shanks buried Whitebeard’s grave nearby. Marco warns that the self-styled “son of Whitebeard,” the Warlord Edward Weevil (mother: the ex-pirate Buckin), is hunting anyone tied to the Whitebeard name and that Marco expects Weevil to come after him and the island. Because it is Luffy who is going to Wano (Cat Viper confirms), Marco gives Cat Viper a message to carry to Luffy. The scene shifts to the Land of Wano, where the Straw Hats infiltrate the capital in disguise — Franky as carpenter “Franosuke,” Usopp as toad-oil salesman “Usohachi,” Robin as geisha “Orobi,” and Zoro as ronin “Zorojuro” — under Kin’emon’s order to keep a low profile. The Shogun is named as Kurozumi Orochi, whose officials answer to Kaido. A Magistrate accuses Zoro of being the night-stalking “Tsujigiri” and of grave-robbing the legendary swordsman Ryuma’s remains and his blade Shusui, sentencing him to seppuku. Zoro refuses, seizes the hilt-less seppuku blade, and cuts loose — apologizing to Kin’emon for blowing their cover.
