Summary

Wanda continues recounting the catastrophe of the Mokomo Dukedom to Luffy’s reunited crew, flashing back ten days to the moment Sanji’s advance party (Sanji, Nami, Brook, Chopper, and the captive Caesar Clown) reached a Zou choked with poison gas. Caesar boasts that the killing gas is one of his own making, named Koro; Sanji, threatening to crush his heart, forces him to release the neutralizing counteragent Roko to clear the town, while Brook and Sanji repel the last of Jack’s lingering Beasts (Sanji downs Sheepshead with a Diable-Jambe Moulton Shot). With the air made safe, a half-mad survivor named Tristan, who has armed herself with explosives, attacks Nami — convinced these humans are more of Jack’s men — until other minks stop her: Wanda’s people had no tie to Jack, his army has already left, and these strangers saved everyone. Pedro confirms the gas is gone. Chopperemon leads a desperate door-to-door detox of the dying, the minks recover en masse, and the survivors weep their gratitude. In the present, Chopper departs for night rounds; Wanda explains she is a Kingsbird, the go-between for the dukedom’s two kings — Duke Dogstorm, King of the Day, and Cat Viper, King of the Night who guards the Whale Forest — and that she must carry word that Dogstorm survives. Luffy and Brook clamor to meet the Cat Viper, and Wanda and the young Kingsbird Carrot set out by night. But Wanda steels them for the worst part of the tale: only two days ago a “terrible event” struck, one that means Sanji might never return to their side — he left only a letter swearing he’d come back. Because Zou is a living island no Log Pose can find, the enemy had to be guided in by a native; two days ago, the Big Mom Pirates arrived, a lion-mink among them calling Zou his hometown.
