Arc-by-arc updates
Wano farewell (post-Wano — Ch. 1059, flashback)
- Declines to join the Straw Hats, choosing to stay and protect Wano: “I can’t just turn my back on everyone now!! …next it’ll be guys like him coming after Wano!!” (p.3).
- Resolves to “search out something to keep myself busy” rather than leave with worries in the back of the crew’s mind; takes charge of looking after Momonosuke and the others (p.3). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — Departure (Ch. 1057)
- Stays in Wano rather than sailing now; resolves to walk the country on foot the way Oden began, then take to the sea later (pp. 3, 10).
- Vows to “surpass Kozuki Oden… someday in the future” (p. 10). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
- Sees the Straw Hats off at Tokage Port; Luffy tells her to “watch out for” Momonosuke.
Wano Country (Ch. 1056) — resolves to leave like Oden
- Atop the castle roof, declares “I’ve made up my mind!! I’m going to live… the way Kozuki Oden did!!!” intending to go to Luffy’s crew (p.17). Seeds a future departure from Wano.
- (
last_appearance→ 1056.)
Wano Country — restrained from the fight (Ch. 1055)

- (
last_appearance1054→1055.)
Wano — defends the Flower Capital from Green Bull (Ch. 1054)
- Intercepts Admiral Ryokugyu in beast form to shield the recovering heroes and celebrating citizens: “I’m Yamato!! The son of Kaido!! …Blast Breath!!!” (p. 7). Green Bull reacts to “some tough Haki!!” The adult-dragon Momonosuke then orders Yamato to stand down (“You must not fight!!!”). See Mori Mori no Mi.
Wano Country — castle aftermath (Ch. 1052)
Wano Country — Onigashima aftermath (Ch. 1050)
- Keeps the airborne Onigashima steady alongside Momonosuke’s dragon (“Keep her steady!!”), credited by the Beasts Pirates as the “leader” who saved the island from crashing (pp. 2-3, 12).
- Faces down the holdout Beasts Pirates with Sanji and Franky after Kaido’s defeat (“Stand down… I will destroy you!!”) (pp. 11-12). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Mentioned — Kaido’s flashback (Ch. 1049)
- “Yamato dropped Joyboy’s name” — the source of Kaido’s interest in Joy Boy; Kaido wonders “where that kid heard it” (p.6). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — Skull Dome rooftop (Ch. 1047)
- Watches the rooftop fight in terror as Kaido rears back — “He’s going to punch right through the island!!! / Luffy, No!!” (p. 19).
Wano Country — witnessing Gear 5 (Ch. 1045)
- Watches the rooftop fight and confirms the white-haired figure really is Luffy — “It just didn’t look like him, because his hair and clothes turned white” (p. 15). Reacts in shock to the transformations (“Was that always one of his forms?!”, p. 6). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country (Ch. 1038)
- Sprints to the castle-basement armory to stop the Kazenbo flames from igniting the gunpowder (“Please be in time!!”); uses ice technique “Namuji Glacier Fang” (p.8). (
Devil-Fruits/Inu Inu no Mi, Model Okuchi-no-Makami) See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — Onigashima (Ch. 1036)
- Pursues Kanjuro’s “Burning Hatred” flame-dragon to stop it exploding Onigashima in midair — “I will not let you go there!!!” (p.7) See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy, Onigashima Will Be Dropped On The Flower Capital.
Wano Country — Onigashima basement: races the fire apparition (Ch. 1032)
- Chases through the 2nd basement; brushes off a Number who wants to fight (“nice to see you again, but I’m in a hurry”) (pp. 3–4). (The Number is un-named on-page this chapter — first appeared pre-window; mention-only.)
- Realizes the fire creature boring downward through the walls is heading for the Armory and that the whole island will explode if it reaches it; begs the Number’s help (pp. 5–6). See New Onigashima Project, Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — Onigashima (Ch. 1031)
- Smashes through Drake/Apoo’s brawl without stopping — “Onigashima and the Flower Capital are in danger!!” — racing to stop the New Onigashima Project (pp. 10–11). Uses ice/wolf power (“FUUUGAAA!!!”). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano — Onigashima, racing the island-drop (Ch. 1030)
- In wolf-beast form, Yamato charges to “the armory on the bottom floor of the castle basement” to slow Onigashima’s descent toward the Flower Capital, telling Momonosuke to do likewise (p. 12). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy, New Onigashima Project.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1028)
- Coaches Momonosuke to summon flame clouds (“You can do it!!”; “…that you can do it!!!”, pp. 6, 8), then breaks off to handle the armory beneath the Skull Dome — “countless explosives” whose detonation could make the disaster “dozens of times more destructive” if Onigashima falls (pp. 7–8). See New Onigashima Project.
- Transforms into a giant wolf — her Okuchi-no-Makami Mythical-Zoan form (“Whoa, a huge wolf!!”) — to race back to the Skull Dome and contain the armory (p. 8).
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1027)
- Returns to Momonosuke’s side (“Sorry about leaving your side earlier!! I’m with you!!”, p. 4) and coaches the panicking dragon through his first flight — “grab the sky,” “you create the clouds… those clouds are called flame clouds” (pp. 6–7).
- Reads the doomsday math of the flame clouds (Onigashima as a “giant bomb” that will crush everyone if it falls) and insists they keep it from Luffy: “No one but Luffy can beat Kaido!! We can’t tell him about this!!!” (pp. 10–11). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1026)
- Reported by the Flower Capital broadcast as “bruised and bloodied,” still “keeping Kaido busy up there” (pp. 3–4).
- Shouts “Get away from him, Momonosuke!!” — intervening to break Momonosuke’s paralysis before Kaido (p. 8). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (rooftop) (Ch. 1025)
- Holds Kaido back single-handed on the Skull Dome roof, trading the ice strike “Hallowed Glacier Slash” (p. 4) for his blows; later lands “White Serpent” (p. 14) on Kaido in tandem with Luffy’s Jet Culverin.
- Kaido narrates her childhood to break her: caged and mocked as the “Ogre Princess,” kept alone for years; everyone who showed her kindness was killed — the samurai in the cave, and a boy who smuggled her food while “wanting to be Oden,” executed (pp. 5–7). Kaido’s creed: “you cannot escape your bloodline… you are still the son of Kaido,” “friendship is a sham,” “you are the child of ogres… that is your fate, Yamato.”
- When Luffy returns, he thanks her — “You were holding Kaido back for us?!” — and Yamato is visibly overjoyed (“I’m so glad…!!”). Luffy calls her “Yamao” (pp. 13–15). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1024)
- Rooftop, present: trades blows with Kaido (dragon form) — fires a “Nari-Kabura Arrow” (pp. 5–6), is struck, and proclaims “I love Oden!!! Is it a crime to admire someone?!” and “I am Oden!! Kozuki Oden!!” (pp. 7–8). Hardened by her past, she declares she now has “people who accept me… people who believe in me” (p. 16) before Kaido’s “Thunder Bagua” lands (p. 17).
- Flashback (young Yamato), pp. 9–15: Kaido chains and imprisons the starving child in a dark “sacred cave” with vicious Wano swordsmen, throws in swords and a single meal “enough for one,” and offers freedom only if she joins his army — secretly intending her to starve. The samurai refuse to fight over the food, feed her, and call her a samurai; their leader names himself “So-and-So.” Recognizing the child styles herself “Kozuki Oden,” they give her Oden’s voyage journal (“Oden’s Travels”) — she can’t read the hard words yet but vows to treasure it for life. Learning Kaido means them to die, the swordsmen break open the sacred cave rather than waste away, telling Yamato “you’re not alone.” The seed of her lifelong identification with Oden. See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy, Odens Voyage Journal Survives As Yamatos Bible.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1020)
- On the Skull Dome roof, Kaido names Yamato’s Devil Fruit on-page: the Dog-Dog Fruit, Model Okuchi-no-Makami — a rare Mythical Zoan wolf and “the guardian deity of Wano” (p.2). The long-held blank
devil_fruitis filled here. See Okuchi-no-Makami. - Kaido demands Yamato “uphold that role and protect Wano—for me!!” and keep the country running as a weapons factory to “release them unto the world.” Yamato refuses: “No, I will free them!! I will liberate this country and its samurai…” (pp.2–4).
- Trades blows with Kaido — uses Namuji Glacier Fang (p.3); Kaido answers with Blast Breath (p.4). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy, Inu Inu no Mi, Model Okuchi-no-Makami.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1019)
- On the Rooftop, tells Kaido she ate the Devil Fruit accidentally out of hunger (“I was hungry!!”) and consequently could no longer swim — “those cuffs weren’t the only thing keeping me on this island!!” (p. 18).
- Declares: “If I don’t fight for the sake of this country… then I can’t call myself… ODEN!!!” and clashes with Kaido (pp. 18–19). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1016)
- Clashes with Kaido (dragon form) inside the Skull Dome. Refuses Kaido’s demand to “be Shogun of Wano,” declaring she will hold him back and drive him out of Wano — “I’m going out to sea with Luffy!!!” — even knowing “I already know I can’t win.” Cites Oden’s prophecy: “Luffy is the man Kozuki Oden was waiting for!!! And until he returns…” (pp. 14–15). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy, Yamato Carries Oden’s Will And Means To Open Wano.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1015)
- Drops in at Kaido’s position declaring she has come “to cut those chains!!!”; Kaido sneers, ”…I think you mean Father.” See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — Onigashima (Ch. 1014)
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1012)
- Hides with Momonosuke in the first-floor crawl-space, watching out for the Marys; has already made contact with Kin’emon.
- Itching to fight; on hearing the rooftop is “one-on-one” now, resolves “I have to hurry!!” to go help.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1006)
- Accompanies and protects the fleeing Momonosuke and Shinobu — the Beasts broadcast “Momonosuke is together with Young Master Yamato.” Continues actively aiding the Kozuki heir against Kaido’s forces (pp. 3–4). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1005)
- Hiding Momonosuke and Shinobu in a sealed “accursed” storeroom inside the dome; identifies a cyborg surveillance mouse that overheard “Sangoro’s” voice as one of her father Kaido’s Marys — explaining they share eyesight with human operators, so the enemy now knows their position (p. 14). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy, The Marys.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 999)
- In the present, narrates Ace’s past visit to Wano to Momonosuke and Otama; reaffirms “I’m Oden… but I hate him [Kaido]” and that Luffy’s name “has the letter D in the middle” (pp. 9, 17).
- Flashback (younger Yamato): chained child the onlookers call “Kaido’s daughter” (p. 4); challenges and loses to Ace, who tells Yamato not to let Kaido “chain your heart too”; smashes Kaido’s dragon statue crying “I want to live as free as Oden did!!!”; drinks and bonds with Ace, who promises to return (pp. 4-8). Ace’s visit is the seed of Yamato’s lifelong drive to “become Oden” and sail free.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 998)
- In a storeroom inside the dome, shields Momonosuke and shows him a discarded dragon statue — once at the island’s entrance, destroyed by “my friend,” a man who came years ago “to kill my father” (Kaido). Cross-link Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy, Yamato’s Friend Who Came To Kill Kaido. (p. 17)
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 997)
- At the port outside the dome, shielding Momonosuke and Shinobu; tries to get them to a ship and away from the island. Names “flame clouds” as the dragon’s flight mechanism and realizes the shaking means Kaido has lifted the island — “there’s no escape to sea anymore” (p. 15).
Wano Country — Onigashima raid (Ch. 990) — referenced; not shown
- Referenced (not shown): escaped the headliners by climbing the wall; capturing Yamato no longer earns the right to challenge a Lead Performer (contest suspended). Ulti idolises Yamato (p. 8).
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 986)
- Reaches the performance stage alongside Luffy in time to stop Kaido from killing Momonosuke, and declares “I no longer think of him as a father!!!” (pp. 13–14).
- Ulti reports “Yamato and Straw Hat Luffy are heading toward the stage” (p. 10).
Wano Country — Skull Dome attic (Ch. 985)
- Publicly named heir-shogun of “New Onigashima” on the stage: Kaido declares his son Yamato the future shogun of the remade country (p. 19) — the first public confirmation Yamato is Kaido’s child. Yamato reacts to the plan with “Stupid Dad!!!” (p. 19), rejecting it. See New Onigashima Project.
- Still shown bound by exploding prison shackles that detonate if he leaves Onigashima — imprisoned since age 8; wanted to go to sea with Ace and his friends (pp. 9–10).
- Bonds further with the shackled-side Luffy in the attic, who offers to break the cuffs off (pp. 9–10). See Yamato Carries Oden’s Will And Means To Open Wano.
Wano Country — Skull Dome attic (Ch. 984)
- Drags Luffy into the Skull Dome attic and tells his story: he idolizes the late Kozuki Oden (whose execution he witnessed twenty years ago, “the Hour of Legends”) and self-styles as Oden — “Kozuki Oden was a man, wasn’t he?! So I chose to be a man too!!” (pp. 16–17). The VIZ reveal caption reads “Kaido’s daughter (self-styled Kozuki Oden), Yamato” (p. 17) — record the on-page nuance neutrally.
- Reveals he recovered Oden’s voyage journal in Kuri and keeps it as his “bible”; wants to open Wano to the world and offers to fight at Luffy’s side — “I want to fight on your side!!! …To open this country to the world!!!” (p. 17). See Odens Voyage Journal Survives As Yamatos Bible, Wano’s Sealed Borders And The Awaited Figure.
- Shown bound in heavy shackles (pp. 4–5); earlier downed the Tobi Roppo with Kaido’s “Thunder Bagua” (p. 3). Luffy grins that Yamato “[reminds him] of Ace!!!” (p. 17). See Luffy Sees Ace In Yamato Inherited-Will Parallel.
Wano Country — Skull Dome (Ch. 983) — first appearance
- Breaks into Luffy’s fight and fells the Tobi Roppo Ulti with a kanabo strike named “Thunder Bagua” — Kaido’s own signature technique (pp. 15–16).
- Addresses Luffy by name (“Straw Hat Luffy!! That’s you, isn’t it?!”), says he has “been waiting for [him] a very long time,” insists “I mean you no harm,” and declares “I’m Kaido’s son!! My name is Yamato!!” (pp. 16–17).
- Beasts pursuers chase him “on Master Kaido’s orders,” calling him “Young Master Yamato.” Presented in a male register this chapter.
- FORWARD-GUARDS (HARD): no Devil Fruit shown (the mythical-Zoan wolf reveal is forward —
devil_fruitBLANK). His idolisation of Kozuki Oden / desire to open Wano’s borders / “carries Oden’s will” land in later in-window chapters — NOT recorded here; only the self-identification and the no-hostility/waiting beats are on-page @0983.
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 987)
- Openly defects from Kaido: “Let my father die!!” / “Well, I’m not on your side anymore!!” Trades blows with the Tobi Roppo’s Ulti (who wants payback “for what you did to me”), while vowing “This is the day when I become Kozuki Oden at last!!” (Pages 9–10)
- Beasts crew raise the alarm: “Young Master Yamato?!” — Yamato is now treated as an enemy of the crew. (Page 10)
Wano Country — Onigashima raid (Ch. 993)
- Fights to protect Momonosuke — “I’m fighting for Kozuki!! I’m not ‘interfering’!!” — and is confronted by the Tobi Roppo Sasaki and his Armored Division (“So you intend to interfere with this, young master Yamato?”) (p. 13).
Wano Country — Onigashima (Ch. 994)
- In the Right-Brain Tower inside the Skull Dome, intercepts two CP-0 agents whose mission is to kill Momonosuke; shields Momonosuke and Shinobu with her body and takes their attacks (pp. 14–17).
- Recounts witnessing the execution of Kozuki Oden 20 years ago, and how she ran to Kuri to save the infant Momonosuke as Kaido dangled him over the cliff edge — but “didn’t have the strength” (pp. 14–16).
- Reveals her birth name: having earlier styled herself with Oden’s name, she declares “my other name is Yamato — and I would die for you!!!” (chapter title; p. 17).
Wano Country — Onigashima raid (Ch. 996)
- Entrusted by Luffy with guarding Momonosuke and Shinobu; on the Right-Brain Tower floor fends off Sasaki and his Armored Corps, refusing to abandon “dead weight” — “Kozuki Oden… would never do that!!!” (pp. 4–6).
- Dives down the hole Franky blasts in the floor, carrying Momonosuke to safety (pp. 8–10).
Wano Country — Onigashima Raid (Ch. 1000)
- Gives Momonosuke Lord Oden’s voyage journal, recovered from the river at the foot of the burning Oden Castle “on that terrible day” (p. 5).
- Flashback: years ago befriended Portgas D. Ace in Wano (pp. 6-9). Ace told Yamato about Luffy’s Pirate-King dream and forbade anyone to laugh at it; gave Yamato a piece of his Vivre Card (“for friends you’ll want to meet again,” p. 9).
- After Ace’s card vanished, Yamato learned from the newspaper that Ace had died and that Ace was Roger’s son (p. 9). Yamato connects this to Oden’s written prophecy of the next generation (pp. 9-11).
Wano Country — Onigashima (Ch. 1040) — froze the armory
- Reveals he encased Onigashima’s explosives in ice so only one bomb detonated (“so we avoided the armory exploding all at once, thankfully”), preventing a full-arsenal chain-detonation (p. 15).
- Hails the adult-dragon Momonosuke flying overhead and learns Zunisha is “very close by” (p. 15). See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy.
Wano Country — declares he will join Luffy’s ship (Ch. 1051)
- Cheerfully introduces himself to the allies as Kaido’s child (“You’re KAIDO’S SON?!”), still styling himself “I’m Kozuki Oden… Otherwise known as YAMATO!!” (pp. 5–6).
- Announces “I’m going to be joining you on your ship!” — told it’s the captain who decides; a Straw Hat voice (Brook) is “all for it.” See Why Is Kaidos Son Yamato Aiding Luffy, Straw Hat Pirates. (Joining unresolved — captain’s call.)
Notes
- Technique etymology — Shinto-deity / Yamato-Takeru attack names (
technique/name-etymology, confidence high [Namuji] / medium [Mahoroba], src One Piece Wiki): Yamato’s ice attacks extend the same mythic layer as his name. “Namuji Glacier Fang” (ナムジ氷牙 Namuji Hyōga; Ch. 1038 p.8) — Namuji ← Ōnamuji (大穴牟遅/大己貴), an alternate name of the land-building Shinto deity Ōkuninushi; Hyōga (氷牙 “ice fang”) is a homophone pun on 氷河 “glacier.” “Mahoroba” (馬幻刃, gikun-read Mahoroba) — the kanji spell a martial “Horse Phantom Blade,” but the forced phonetic reading evokes まほろば, the archaic poetic word for an idyllic, mountain-girt homeland, lifted from Yamato Takeru’s death-poem in the Kojiki in praise of the land of Yamato (“Yamato is the land’s mahoroba…”) — doubly reinforcing Yamato’s namesake. Both fit his wolf-deity fruit Inu Inu no Mi, Model Okuchi-no-Makami and his self-cast role as Wano’s guardian.
