Chapter 994: My Other Name Is Yamato

Summary

On the Skull Dome rooftop, Kaido — in serpent-dragon form — praises the Nine Red Scabbards for the warrior’s resolve with which they wounded him, ranking their “way of the samurai” alongside the deaths of Roger and Whitebeard (“death is what completes a person”), then resolves to end the fight; the battered Scabbards (Kiku helped up after losing her arm) defy him. Far below, Luffy and Jinbe smash up through the castle levels toward Kin’emon, plowing past the Headliners Hamlet (Giraffe SMILE) and Fourtricks (Chicken SMILE). On the Performance Floor, Queen unleashes a new bioweapon — a contagious “Ice Oni” virus that freezes the skin, boosts ferocity and muscle, turns victims into rampaging oni who attack friend and foe alike, and kills them within an hour; Chopper and Robin deduce a cure is only possible by stealing the antibodies from the Lead Performer who cultivates it. Queen turns it into a “Game Night,” declaring that if his crew can keep the antidote away from the samurai for an hour, the infected (including Hyogoro’s men and Boss Ohmasa) all die, ordering “Zolo” and Apoo to seize it. In the Right-Brain Tower, two CP0 agents corner Shinobu and Momonosuke on their mission to kill the boy — but Yamato intervenes, shielding them, recounting how she watched Kaido dangle the infant Momonosuke over the edge on the day Oden died, and at last declares: “I used your father’s name earlier… but my other name is Yamato — and I would die for you!!!”
