Chapter 1019: Heliceratops

Summary

The chapter opens on a summer-themed color spread of the Straw Hats at the beach. On the Live Floor inside the Skull Dome a tank fires lasers “again and again,” while aboard the Polar Tang at sea near Wano the Heart Pirates frantically work to revive a bandaged, near-drowned Luffy — who jolts awake demanding meat. The bulk of the chapter is the conclusion of Franky’s duel with the Tobi Roppo Sasaki at the Right Brain Tower of Onigashima: in General Franky, Franky trades dinosaur-tank techniques (Sasaki’s spinning Heliceratops, Bulle-Triceratops and Magnum-Ceratops against Franky’s General Shield, Franken-Sword, V-For-Victory Flash and the portable Gaon Cannon). With Big Mom rampaging nearby (“I’ll slaughter anyone… now move”), Franky finally finishes Sasaki with General Cannon and Radical Beam. The scene then cuts to the Rooftop, where Kaido praises Yamato as a soldier and laments that he never intended her to eat the Devil Fruit he “worked hard to acquire.” Yamato recounts eating it out of hunger and losing the ability to swim — bound to Onigashima by the fruit as much as by her explosive cuffs — and declares that if she does not fight for this country she cannot call herself Oden, launching her duel with Kaido.
