Chapter 1014: The Ham

Summary

In the sky above Onigashima, Kaido watches the unconscious Luffy plummet, mocking the “crude and clumsy” Conqueror’s-Haki coating (“the color of the Supreme King”) Luffy used yet conceding “your use of it…”—then, as Luffy splashes into the sea, Kaido concludes “you couldn’t be Joyboy… either, it seems.” Kaido orders Bao Huang to announce the result to all of Onigashima; her surveillance Marys broadcast that the highest bounty on the enemy side has fallen, that Luffy “sinks to the bottom of the dark, cold sea,” and that only those who raise their arms in surrender will be spared—drawing a collective “SCREW THAT!!” from the allies and a reaction from Big Mom and Kid. On the Performance Floor, Queen taunts and pummels a flagging Chopper (“raccoon dog”), dangling a chemical recipe that would extend Chopper’s 3-minute Monster Point to 30 minutes at grave risk, while loosing his Black Coffee Beam and candy-arrow rain. In the first-floor crawlspace, the dying spy Kanjuro uses his ink-painting power to conjure a mocking fake Oden to torment Kin’emon, Kiku, Shinobu and Momonosuke; enraged, Kiku cuts Kanjuro down—he reveals he had raised her and her brother Izo as orphans—and Kanjuro expires recalling Oden taking him in, declaring they were “best of friends on stage.” As Kaido descends in dragon form to clean up the stragglers, Kin’emon orders Shinobu to flee with Momonosuke, and the floating fortress of Onigashima reaches the Wano mainland.

• Kaido invokes “Joyboy.” Watching Luffy fall, Kaido says he “couldn’t be Joyboy… either, it seems” (p. 3) — Kaido has been measuring pirates against a Joy Boy benchmark and finding them wanting.
• Kaido critiques Luffy’s Conqueror’s-Haki coating. Luffy “infused [him]self with the color of the Supreme King” — Kaido calls it “crude and clumsy” but acknowledges “your use of it…” (pp. 2–3), continuing the advanced-Haki/Haoshoku-coating thread.
• Mass-demoralization broadcast. Kaido has Bao Huang’s Marys announce to all of Onigashima that the fight is over and Luffy is dead, demanding surrender (pp. 8–10).
• Queen’s chemistry offer. Queen mocks Chopper’s “Rumble Balls” and offers a list of chemicals that would stretch his gigantification/Monster time from 3 minutes to 30 — “Sure, there are risks…” (pp. 6–7). Queen also reveals his own monster-time has “less than ten minutes left.”
• Kanjuro raised Kiku and Izo. “I’m the man who took you and Izo in!!” (p. 12) — the traitor was the orphaned siblings’ childhood guardian.
• Kanjuro dies. Kiku’s cut is fatal (“the wound you already gave me will prove fatal, Kiku”); Kanjuro collapses recalling Oden recruiting “this freak,” saying “if anyone should close the curtains on my act… it ought to be you” and “on stage… we were always best of friends” (pp. 13–15).
• Yamato is free. A Mary reports his explosive cuffs are gone; he is on the third-floor castle (p. 4).
• Onigashima reaches the Wano mainland (p. 17) — Kaido drags the flying fortress over the homeland.
