What we know
- Ch. 997: “Flame clouds” are the cloud a dragon generates to fly through the air — named on-page by Yamato (p. 15): “Dragons fly through the air by creating something called flame clouds.”
- Ch. 997: Kaido (in dragon form) uses flame clouds not only to fly but to lift the entire island of Onigashima off the sea and into the sky (pp. 16–17), with the stated intent of moving it over the Flower Capital (“New Onigashima”).
- Distinct from Skypiea’s Emperor Cloud / island-cloud material; this is a dragon-generated phenomenon.
- Ch. 1028: Momonosuke struggles to generate flame clouds in time to keep the falling Onigashima off the Flower Capital (“Only five minutes left… I can’t make the clouds!!”, p. 6) — establishing that a dragon’s flame-cloud generation is a learned skill, not automatic, and that it can lift/hold an enormous mass aloft.
Chronology / structure
A draconic ability of Kaido’s mythical-Zoan dragon form, first named and demonstrated at the climax of the Onigashima raid’s opening act (Ch. 997): the flame clouds carry the whole flying fortress aloft as Kaido declares “the World of Violence.”
