New Onigashima Project
Structural lore — Kaido ’s grand plan, named Ch. 984 and explained Ch. 985 on the Onigashima stage: remake Wano into a weapons-factory pirate empire and install Yamato as shogun.
What we know
Ch. 1050 pp. 2-3, 8 — the falling-island payload is neutralized
The flying-fortress crisis ends: Momonosuke ’s adult dragon holds Onigashima aloft (with Yamato keeping it steady), so it does NOT crash onto the Flower Capital . The capital is spared; the “drop Onigashima on the capital” threat is resolved on-page.
Ch. 1031 p. 11 — Yamato races to stop the imminent drop
Yamato charges to stop the plan: “Onigashima and the Flower Capital are in danger!!” — the in-progress threat of Onigashima being dropped onto the Flower Capital is treated as imminent. (canonical_chapters += 1031.)
Ch. 1030 pp. 9–12 — the island-drop made lethal by Kazenbo + a hidden armory
As Onigashima descends toward the Flower Capital , Kanjuro ’s eternal flame Kazenbo turns the castle into a sea of flames, and a fleeing Orochi reveals Kaido keeps “that huge armory beneath the castle… all those weapons I had you create!!” on the basement’s bottom floor. Yamato races there to slow the island’s fall and prevent the cache from detonating, coordinating with Momonosuke . (canonical_chapters += 1030.)
Ch. 1028 pp. 6–8 — the falling-island crisis + the armory beneath the dome
The plan’s destructive mechanism is shown in motion: Onigashima rises above Wano and bears down on the Flower Capital (~5 minutes out, pp. 6–7). The threat is compounded by a massive armory beneath the Skull Dome holding “countless explosives” — if the island falls, the catastrophe could be “dozens of times more destructive” (pp. 7–8). Momonosuke must hold the island aloft with flame clouds ; Yamato moves to contain the armory. (canonical_chapters += 1028.)
Ch. 1027 pp. 9–11 — the flying-fortress crisis
The flying-fortress phase of the project reaches its crisis: borne on flame clouds , Onigashima is “no more than five minutes” from the Flower Capital (p. 9). The alliance spells out the stakes — the island holds “an incredible stockpile of weapons… and explosives,” so “Onigashima might as well be a giant bomb”; if it falls, “everyone will perish, friend and foe alike,” with no time for the citizens to evacuate (pp. 10–11). (Develops the @0997 “World of Violence” / flying-island escalation now that it is in-window.)
Ch. 1022 p. 3 — the flying island aloft over Wano
The flying island is shown aloft above the Wano mainland , grinding toward the Flower Capital with an on-page countdown: “only 15 minutes!!” until it reaches the capital — the airborne-Onigashima execution of the project in motion.
Ch. 985 pp. 15–19 — the project explained on the stage
Kaido lays out the New Onigashima Project : remake Wano into a weapons-manufacturing pirate empire — expand SMILE /weapons factories, conscript the Flower Capital populace as a labor source, and exploit Wano’s waterfall defenses as a natural fortress “neither the Navy nor the World Government can easily reach.” Wano is to be renamed New Onigashima , Onigashima becomes the new Flower Capital, and Kaido’s son Yamato is installed as shogun (p. 19). Framed as preparation for “the coming world war.” Counterpoint to Oden ’s dying wish to open Wano — see Wano’s Sealed Borders And The Awaited Figure . (status named-not-explained → explained; canonical_chapters += 0985.)
Ch. 984 p. 15 — first named on the stage
Kaido takes the Skull Dome performance stage and declares, “Listen up!! I’m going to explain the ‘New Onigashima’ project!!!” — tying the announcement to Momonosuke ’s scheduled execution (pp. 14–15). The content/meaning of the project is withheld to the next chapter ; recorded here only as first-named.
Ch. 984 : First named on-page; meaning not yet explained.
Ch. 985 : Explained — a weapons-factory pirate empire; Wano renamed “New Onigashima,” Yamato installed as shogun, framed for “the coming world war.” (The flying-island / “World of Violence” expansion @0997 is forward of this chapter — do NOT pre-state.)
