Chapter 985: New Onigashima Project

Summary

At Onigashima’s rear gate the traitor Kanjuro greets the arriving Kozuki forces, showing off “artful” effigies of decapitated samurai and gloating that the captured Momonosuke — who cut Kanjuro’s palm trying to free himself — is about to be publicly executed inside; Kiku (titled “Kikunojo of the Fallen Snow”) draws her blade and the scabbards charge into Kanjuro’s living drawings as Kaido’s broadcast speech begins. In an attic chamber, Luffy bonds with the shackled Yamato, who explains the exploding prison shackles that have kept Yamato imprisoned on the island since age eight, professes to be “Kozuki Oden,” and recalls wanting to go to sea with Ace; Luffy offers to break the cuffs off. On the main stage, Kaido proclaims his “New Onigashima Project,” welcomes Big Mom (publicly disguised as “Olin the Oiran,” bounty 4.388 billion) and announces their alliance: they will turn Wano into a weapons-manufacturing pirate empire, claim the One Piece, and seize the Ancient Weapons ahead of the coming world war. When Shogun Orochi protests, Kaido cuts him down, declares Wano will be renamed New Onigashima with his son Yamato installed as shogun, and the alliance forces Orochi’s followers to choose. Luffy spots Momonosuke on the projection and demands to be shown the stage; Yamato curses “Stupid Dad!!!”; a Beasts officer calls for the Tobi Roppo.
