Chapter 481: Shadows Asgard

Summary

In the aftermath of Oars’s defeat, the colossal zombie finally collapses (“DOOM”) and cannot get back up, though zombie “immortality” keeps him conscious despite crushed bones. Luffy reverts from his shadow-borrowed Nightmare bulk and shrinks to a tiny, immobilized husk. Racing a brightening dawn that will disintegrate every shadowless person on the island, the freed victims rush to wake Moria and force him to give back the stolen shadows — but Moria rises on his own. He delivers his creed: he once trusted “a famous and talented crew” as Luffy does, but “concluded long ago that it wasn’t enough,” because a living crew is mortal while zombies are immortal, expendable soldiers — so he will seize the title of Pirate King with an army of the undead. He then unleashes SHADOWS ASGARD, ripping every shadow on Thriller Bark — 100, 200, 300, 600, 700, up to 1,000 shadows (including Luffy’s own) — into his own body, swelling into a giant that splits the island apart. Robin and Zoro read that his rage and pride made him miscalculate his capacity: he is going berserk and losing control. As the sun threatens the fleeing crowd, Captain Lola and the Rolling Pirates refuse to run and stake everything on the Straw Hats. Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji square up for the final assault as Luffy vows to end Moria’s nightmare himself.
