Mast Mansion
- Name
- スリラーバーク (Surirā Bāku)
- Region
- Thriller Bark
- First seen
- Ch. 456
- Name meaning
- Descriptive: the villains' residence sits atop and functions as the 'main mast' of Thriller Bark — the island that is secretly the world's largest pirate ship — so the 'mansion' is literally the ship's mast. The name encodes the island's true nature as a vessel.
Thriller Bark · first appeared: Ch. 456
Profile
Gecko Moria’s own mansion atop Thriller Bark’s mainmast — distinct from Hogback’s mansion — named on-page “Inside Mast Mansion, Gecko Moria’s dance hall” (Ch. 456, p. 8). It houses Moria’s throne / dance hall and, below it, the Zombie Number 900 Special Hall / Freezer where Oars’ 500-year-old corpse is kept (pp. 8, 17). Connected to Hogback’s mansion by a “spider-web passageway” (where Brook confronts the Ryuma zombie this chapter).
Etymology
(Name origin if researched. The mansion atop the mainmast of the ship-island Thriller Bark — “Mast” for the towering main mast that doubles as Moria’s tower.)
Key chapters
- Ch. 456 — first appearance; named as “Gecko Moria’s dance hall”; the freezer below holds Number 900 / Oars.
- Ch. 458 — the long stairway leads “straight up to the bosses’ room”; the mansion houses the dining room (where Luffy, Zoro and Sanji are held tied to chairs) and the wedding hall (where Absalom’s forced ceremony for Nami is being prepared) (pp. 15-18).
