The seed
Ch. 455 p. 19 — the shadow-theft escalates to a main character
The shadow-theft mechanic is escalated from anonymous victims to a main character: Moria cuts out Luffy ’s shadowpending.)
The cemetery zombies cast no shadow and long for the day “when our shadows return ”; an old-man zombie begs the crew to defeat the man who cursed them. The crew names that man — Gecko Moria shadowless victims + shadow-thief master , a chapter before the forest victims spell out the sun-aversion curse.
The dark-forest victims explain that Gecko Moria is “the guy who steals shadows ,” that they are “cursed ” and “cannot be called truly alive,” that they flee the sun, and that one’s dying wish is “to walk under the sun once before I die.” The explicit pairing of stolen shadows + sun-aversion alongside Hogback ’s corpse-reanimation seeds both Moria’s shadow Devil Fruit and the zombies’ sunlight weakness.
The payoff
The sun-cursed shadow-victims reclaim their stolen shadows at dawn : Captain Lola and her crew call their shadows home by name, and Luffy ruptures the shadow-bloated Moria to free every shadow at once. The forest-of-cursed-victims engine of the whole arc is dismantled (pp. 3, 15-19). Payoff on-page within window → flipped confirmed.
Aftermath: with the shadows returned, the sun-cursed victims can finally “walk beneath the sun” / “look at the rising sun” and “don’t have to fear the dawn anymore” — the planted curse (shadow-robbed cannot stand in sunlight) fully lifts, and defeating Moria returns every shadow he ever stole worldwide at once.

Ch. 479 pp. 7, 18-20 — the sun-aversion curse climaxes
The cursed victims’ sun-aversion is brought to a head: “the sun is about to come up,” and beating Oars / Moria triggers “everyone’s shadow will be released” so the victims can be “full humans” who “walk under the sun again.” The stolen-shadow / sunlight win condition seeded at Ch. 448 /Ch. 449 reaches its climax on-page. (Status held pending — the full owner-by-owner shadow restoration completes over the following chapters beyond this single chapter; within-window-completion not yet reached, so the flip is deferred to the scorer/weaver.)
The sun-curse goes from threat to active danger: with dawn breaking and Moria having stripped every shadow on the island, the shadowless crowd must hug the shade of the buildings until they reach the forest or “burn up / disintegrate.” On-page demonstration that shadow-robbed people cannot survive direct sunlight.
