Firsts
  • GECKO MORIA is revealed to be one of the SEVEN WARLORDS OF THE SEA — the cowering pig-zombie names him as the mansion's 'true boss,' so feared that the zombie 'can't even say his full name' (pp. 15-16). This is the sixth Warlord seat surfaced on-page and frames Thriller Bark as a Warlord stronghold.
  • ZOMBIE GENERALS are introduced as an elite zombie tier 'on a completely different level than the other zombies' — special-bodied reanimated corpses Hogback fields against intruders, climaxing in a hall of 'ancient warriors' that 'awaken' on command (pp. 4, 18-19).
  • SAMURAI RYUMA debuts: a zombie general who 'hearkens from the WANO COUNTRY of the New World,' said in legend to have 'slew a flying dragon' — 'the samurai of legend.' His zombie inexplicably shares Brook's exact manners (asks Nami's underwear, the 'Fo/Yo ho ho' laugh, humming), making Nami exclaim 'That sounded just like him!' (pp. 3-7).
  • WANO COUNTRY 'of the New World' is named on-page for the first time — Ryuma's homeland (p. 4).
  • DR. HOGBACK does not deny Nami's accusation that he revived the dead and that his servant 'Victoria Cindry' died ten years ago; instead he triggers the 'night hunt,' sealing the trio in darkness and siccing Ryuma on them (pp. 2-3).
  • The crew is canonically counted as EIGHT: a zombie general's order is 'Defeat all of them... The Straw Hat Pirates are only eight strong!!' (p. 19) — i.e. Brook is not yet counted as a member.
  • SANJI vanishes — kidnapped/abducted unseen from inside the mansion ('Where did Sanji go? Huh? He was just here'), leaving Luffy's group down a member (p. 14).

Summary

Inside Hogback’s mansion the clock strikes midnight and Nami, Usopp and Chopper confront Dr. Hogback, accusing him of reviving the dead — Nami names his servant “Victoria Cindry,” who died ten years ago. Hogback launches the “night hunt”: Cindry plunges the room into darkness and the zombie general Samurai Ryuma — a Wano legend said to have slain a flying dragon — cuts the trio down with his “Notch Slash” after they realize, three paces too late, that he shares Brook’s exact mannerisms. Elsewhere, Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Robin and Franky breach the mansion’s locked door, brawl through a menagerie of talking zombies, and learn from a terrified pig-zombie that the master of Thriller Bark, Gecko Moria, is one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Sanji vanishes unseen. As Luffy threatens to level the island if his crew is harmed, the zombies swarm to “Zombie Night,” and in the great hall the Zombie Generals awaken to hunt down “only eight” Straw Hats and offer them to their master.
