Firsts
  • The 100-shadow 'Nightmare Luffy' power-up lasts only two or three minutes; afterward the borrowed shadows leave Luffy's body and return toward their owners. The victims grafted the shadows in without Luffy's permission, entrusting everything to him (pp. 5-6).
  • A dawn deadline is foregrounded: the sun is about to come up and 'in the next few minutes the fate of all the victims on this island will be decided'; the cursed victims' wish is restated as 'I want to be a full human one more time' / 'I want to walk under the sun again' (pp. 7).
  • Nightmare Luffy out-powers Oars-plus-Moria, ending the fight with a giant Gum-Gum Storm barrage; Oars (with Moria riding inside its stomach) collapses, the shadows pour back out of Luffy, and the rescued victims declare 'Everyone's shadow will be released!!' and 'Thriller Bark... has fallen!!' (pp. 16-20).

Summary

The Thriller Bark victims — humans whose shadows Moria stole — watch “Nightmare Luffy” (Luffy stuffed with the shadows of 100 people) trade blows with Oars, the 500-year-old “Beast” that Moria is piloting from inside its stomach. The victims carry the badly injured, unconscious Straw Hat crew (including the now-skeletal Brook) to safety and give first aid, hailing them as the crew of “our Warrior of Hope.” They explain the mechanism: the borrowed shadows make Luffy that powerful but will only hold for two or three more minutes before leaving his body — and the sun is about to rise, so the fate of every victim hangs on the next few minutes. Nightmare Luffy unloads an escalating barrage — Gum-Gum Bullet, Pistol, Battle-Axe and finally a colossal Gum-Gum Storm — that overwhelms Oars and Moria. Oars topples, the hundred shadows stream back out of Luffy, and the victims rejoice that “everyone’s shadow will be released” and that Thriller Bark has fallen, thanking their savior as Luffy slumps, spent.
