After Fisher Tiger’s death Jimbei leads the crew (“now led by Jimbei, the first son of the sea”). When Jimbei takes a Seven Warlords seat — the deal that releases the imprisoned Arlong — the Sun Pirates broke up into three factions and went their separate ways (p. 16): Jimbei’s; Arlong’s restarted Arlong Pirates (with Hachi); and a third. The crew had earlier covered up that Tiger was a former slave (Arlong lied to the Navy) to protect his reputation (pp. 2-3).

Notable events

• Ch. 885 p. 15 — named as betrayers in the fleet-wide hunt: the Big Mom Pirates list the Pirates of the Sun — “the Fish-Men who vanished on us” — among the crews that betrayed Big Mom and are now to be found and sunk across Totto Land (fallout of Jinbe’s break with Big Mom). See Big Mom Pirates.

• Ch. 873 pp. 3-4 — reported to have left Totto Land: the Charlotte family reports the Sun Pirates have packed up and departed from Totto Land’s eastern coast, and that their captain Jinbe “quit — joined forces with the Straw Hats,” having taken back his temporary-leave request to buy his comrades time to escape Big Mom’s rampage.

• Ch. 860 pp. 4-5 — the crew departs Totto Land, shown as a unit: under first mate Aladdin, the Sun Pirates leave Totto Land for Fish-Man Island at Jinbe’s order — taking the ship and the captive Pekoms — while Jinbe stays behind to aid the wedding coup. Aladdin offers to have the crew “go out in a blaze of glory” alongside him; Jinbe refuses, and they part with an emotional farewell. See Straw Hat Recruitment Pattern.

• Ch. 852 p. 6 — the crew’s Big-Mom affiliation revealed; open rebellion declared: via Jinbe, the Sun Pirates are revealed to have been affiliated with / operating under Big Mom’s protection; Jinbe abandons that position and declares open rebellion against Big Mom (p. 6). • Ch. 830 pp. 2-7 — the crew shown active (Sun Pirates flashback, “a few hours ago”): at Fish-Man Island the crew — captain Jimbei, first mate Aladdin (goatsbeard brotula merman, married to Charlotte Praline, Big Mom’s 29th daughter), and the giant Wadatsumi — bless Jimbei’s decision to leave Big Mom’s organization so he can one day pledge himself to Luffy. Praline’s marriage to Aladdin makes Big Mom, by marriage, the crew’s “family.”

• Ch. 829 pp. 15-18 — referenced present-day (via Jinbei): operating within Big Mom’s Totto Land. Jinbei, captioned “Captain of the Sun Pirates / Former Warlord of the Sea,” is shown serving Big Mom in Totto Land — he brings her a poneglyph as tribute and the croquembouche that ends her craving fit — while preparing to break from her organization (Big Mom: “You’d better not be trying to leave me”). • Ch. 652 pp. 2-3 — referenced as active present-day (mention only): King Neptune and Jinbei state the Sun Pirates, led by Jinbei, currently operate under Big Mom’s jurisdiction — the mechanism by which Fish-Man Island keeps Big Mom’s protection. • Ch. 521 — Founded by Fisher Tiger after his solo raid on Marijoa frees the Celestial Dragons’ slaves; the crew adopts the sun mark over the slave brand. After Tiger’s death the crew splits into factions.
• Ch. 616 — referenced as disbanded (present-day): named by Hody’s crew as “the Sun Pirates, that annoying band led by Jinbei” — and noted to be “gone now,” clearing the invaders’ path into Ryugu (p. 6).
• Ch. 620 — membership + origin now CANON on-page: Jinbei confirms that Arlong, Hatchan, and Jinbei were all Sun Pirates under Fisher Tiger (p. 16). The crew “defied the government” and thereby hindered Queen Otohime’s diplomacy (p. 16). The captain’s stateroom is shown in flashback (Grand Line, 15 years ago, pp. 603+”) is now resolved — on-page in-window.

• Ch. 621 — the founding, dramatized in full (16-years-ago flashback). After Fisher Tiger’s raid on sacred Marijoa and his defeat of the Celestial Dragons, the World Government put a bounty on his head; the Fish-Man District rose to protect him, Jinbei resigned from the Neptune Army (“as of today”), and “the Sun Pirates of the fish-men were formed.” Every freed slave “received the sun brand that covered the brands of the slaves… so that the liberated slaves might blend in more easily” (pp. 15-17). Freeing slaves was a crime because “it’s legal to own slaves” (p. 17). Founding captain Fisher Tiger; early members incl. Jinbei (ex-Neptune Army) and the ex-orphan-brother Arlong. • Ch. 622 — the crew dramatized in full (flashback). Fisher Tiger captains a crew of freed slaves and fish-men who raid Marine ships to liberate slaves and seize supplies, under the iron creed “We will never kill.” Arlong (who calls Tiger “big brother,” then “captain”) openly defies it, reveling in violence against humans as an “inferior race”; Tiger strikes him for it. Marine intelligence notes the Arlong Pirates merged into Tiger’s crew (p. 10), and Jinbei sits among Tiger’s councillors (pp. 12-13). The crew rescues an enslaved human child, burns away her Celestial Dragon brand, and sails to return her home. See Slavery, Sun God Identity and the Divine Pattern.

• Ch. 623 — Fisher Tiger’s death + the schism, on-page (flashback). The crew returns the rescued slave girl Koala to Foolshout Island; the island betrays them to the Navy (Rear Admiral Strawberry’s ambush). Tiger is mortally wounded; the crew steals a Navy ship to escape, and Fisher Tiger dies refusing a human blood transfusion. The crew begins to splinter — Arlong breaks toward genocidal anti-human vengeance (declaring himself boss of the Fish-Man District) while Jinbei holds to Tiger’s restraint. Ch. 1167 — the Ransacking of Sacred Marijoa depicted (Elbaf-arc flashback)

• The founding-era Ransacking of Sacred Marijoa by “the future captain of the Sun Pirates,” Fisher Tiger, is depicted (pp. 10-11) — the slave liberation that freed Koala and the Boa sisters — secretly enabled by a young Shanks (“here’s how to get there… I’ve left the armory unlocked”).
