Structural lore — the permanent slave brand of the World Nobles. The full lore of the institution lives in Slavery and Celestial Dragons; this note holds the brand itself.
What we know
- Ch. 521 (chapter title; pp. 12-13): the Hoof of the Celestial Dragon is burned onto every person kept as a slave by the Celestial Dragons, “as a reminder that they are less than human.” Revealed on the backs of the Boa sisters (Hancock, Sandersonia, Marigold) — the secret the Kuja guard as the “Eye of the Gorgon.”
- Ch. 521 (pp. 16-17): freed slaves of the Pirates of the Sun overwrite the hoof with a sun to erase the trace of their bondage — which is why Hachi’s forehead bears a sun. See The Sun Mark Erases The Slave Brand As A Symbol Of Liberation.
