Cacao Island

Profile

An island within Totto Land, home to Chocolat Town, the town built entirely of chocolate. The retrieval team lands here to resupply en route to Whole Cake Island (p. 4–6).

Etymology

• Surface meaning: カカオ島 (Kakao-tō) — “Cacao Island.” Cacao is the cocoa bean, the raw ingredient of chocolate; the wiki keys it to Theobroma cacao, the binomial of the cocoa-bean tree.
• Pun layer: anchors the island’s home town Chocolat Town (chocolate ← cacao) and the gag that the whole town is edible chocolate — squarely inside Totto Land’s confectionery / food naming theme.
• Real-world reference: the edible-architecture conceit echoes the candy house of the Brothers Grimm’s Hansel and Gretel and the Chocolate Room of Willy Wonka (Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

• Ch. 896 — the Big Mom Pirates muster an all-out blockade here against the Straw Hats’ escape: a cloaked strategist war-games Luffy’s predicted ~1 AM mirror-exit and reasons he cannot leave the Mirro-World without Brulee — so they resolve to re-secure her, “the key to unlock the Mirro-World” (pp. 2-3, 11). The chapter closes on the massed fleet and a giant commander roaring “Show yourself… Straw Hat Luffy!!!” with five minutes to 1 o’clock (p. 17).

• Ch. 897 — the Cacao Island escape standoff (VIZ title “Pekoms’s Cacao Island Escape Plan”): Oven’s forces hold “Mirror Square” (p. 3) and Snack the harbor, while Smoothie’s fleet blockades the sea and Mont-d’Or runs the cordon by snail (“trapped like rats”, p. 3). Pekoms bursts out of a mirror in Sulong form clutching Brulee to cover Luffy’s escape; Oven scorches and blinds him (p. 12). Sanji Sky-Walks in to catch the falling Luffy, and the Germa 66 fleet bombards the harbor for payback (pp. 15-17).

• Ch. 898 — the Cacao Île escape resolves: the Germa 66 fleet appears and bombards the harbor to cover the Straw Hats; the Vinsmokes (Niji, Ichiji) cut down Oven’s pursuit forces; Brûlée reveals Katakuri’s defeat to the fleet; Sanji flies off the island via his own Sky-Walk carrying Luffy and reaches the Thousand Sunny (pp. 2–17).
