A giant woman of Elbaf, a minor figure in Big Mom’s origin flashback. Named and shown reacting as childhood Linlin’s craving rampage begins on day 7 of the winter-solstice fast — “What’s the matter, Gerd?!” (p. 15).

Etymology

ゲルズ (Geruzu) → “Gerd.” The name is the modern anglicization of Gerðr, a figure in Norse mythology who is both a goddess and a jötunn (giantess) — the wife of the god Freyr. Since the jötnar are precisely the Norse race rendered into English as “giants,” the name is a near-exact fit for a giantess of Elbaf, the giants’ Norse-coded homeland. (One Piece Wiki–sourced; the exact-spelling match makes this high confidence despite the wiki’s editorial “possibly.”)
