Chapter 1112: Hard Aspects

Summary

The World Government forces, directed by a Five Elder, pound Egghead to keep “Emperor Straw Hat Luffy” from escaping, to stop Jewelry Bonney from leaving with her father Kuma, to sink the Elbaf ship, and — above all — to find and silence the transponder snail still broadcasting Vegapunk’s message. A Five Elder, transformed into a monstrously hard boar-beast, rampages: it bites, generates an enormous suction to drag the fleeing ships back, and uses Observation Haki to hunt the broadcasting snail, deducing it is hidden inside Punk Records. The Vegapunk satellites and the staying-behind Stussy try to protect it; a recording-playback of the message’s making (in “Labo-Phase,” with Shaka and the original Vegapunk/Stella) is used to reason about where the snail is hidden. On the escape side, Franky readies the Thousand Sunny’s coup-de-burst super-jump for when “Zolo’s group” arrives, the satellite Edison hurls himself to guarantee the ship lands in the water, Robin runs the landing math, and Stussy reveals she volunteered to stay behind and drop the Frontier Dome from the command room at the moment of escape — a sacrifice. Luffy (Gear 5) fights the boar-Elder, even feeding it a building, but runs out of “food power” and shrivels into a starved old-man form until Elbaf’s fermented-shark Hákarl re-energizes him; his renewed Gear-3 attack still just bounces off (“How hard is that thing?!”). The chapter closes on two new threats arriving at once: a “crab” approaching Labo-Phase’s rear, and a mysterious cloaked swordsman cutting down an Elbaf giant at the northeast shore — the same figure a playback shows reaching Vegapunk (“Fortune was not on your side, Vegapunk”), as the broadcast counts down “one minute left, Stella.”

New reveals

• A Five Elder’s beast-form is brutally HARD. The transformed boar-Elder shrugs off Luffy’s renewed Gear-3 strike — the blow just rings off it (“KLAANG!!”, “How hard is that thing?!”). The chapter title “Hard Aspects” names the Gorosei’s near-invulnerable hardness (pp. 14-16). See Five Elders True Nature.
• The boar-Elder is a suction engine. From its huge mouth it pulls an “inward wind,” dragging the Sunny and the Elbaf ship back toward the island — “the suction is enormous!!” — and it senses the transponder snail by Observation Haki: “I sense the voice of a small creature… in Punk Records?!” (pp. 8, 12-13).
• Nika runs on food. When Luffy’s Gear-5 energy is spent he reverts to a starved, skinny old-man form (“you’ve turned into some strange old man!!”); eating Hákarl — fermented-shark emergency rations from Elbaf — instantly restores him (“you’re back to the old you!!”) (pp. 14-15).
• Stussy’s sacrifice. The Frontier Dome can only be lowered from the command room, and it must drop the instant the ship escapes — so Stussy volunteered to stay behind to do it (“staying behind was my idea”); she is taunted as the one her own side abandoned after she betrayed them (“They abandoned you, didn’t they, Stussy?”) (pp. 9-10).
• The escape mechanism. Franky’s plan: when “Zolo’s group” reaches the ship, the Sunny makes a coup-de-burst super-jump out to sea as the Dome falls; Robin certifies the landing by “classical mechanics,” and Edison flings himself to make the ship “touch down in the water” (simulated external damage 78%, “Trust in me!!”) (pp. 10-11).
• Punk Records geography (a chain-reaction killbox). The lab buildings are mapped on-page: building A 1st floor = power plant, building B 2nd floor = weapons development, building C 3rd floor = the entire pressurized-gas-cylinder store — destroy any one and a chain reaction levels Punk Records itself; the transponder snail (triangular spiral shell) is hidden inside (pp. 7-8).
• A new cloaked swordsman. A long-haired, cloaked figure with a katana appears at the northeast shore and fells an Elbaf giant (“Who’s that?!”); a playback shows the SAME figure reaching Vegapunk in the lab and saying “Fortune was not on your side, Vegapunk… Here it is…” — strongly implying he is Vegapunk’s killer/assailant (p. 17).
• Pacifista Mk. III units are reported “neutralized,” and the WG explicitly frames Bonney as the girl Vegapunk “gave enough power to level an entire country” (pp. 2-3).

• Can the boar-Elder’s hardness be broken at all, and by what — given even Luffy’s Gear-3 strike just bounces off?
• Will the Sunny clear the suction and complete the coup-de-burst before the Dome must drop — and will Stussy survive lowering it?
• What is the “crab” approaching Labo-Phase’s rear?
• Will the enemy find and destroy the transponder snail before the message finishes (the on-screen countdown is down to one minute)?
