On the Onigashima rooftop, after his heart restarts, Luffy awakens the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika (Gomu Gomu no Mi). Named on-page “Gear 5” (pp. 10, 17). The awakened state turns his hair and clothes white, surrounds him with a halo of smoke, and grants imagination-driven “cartoon physics”: he stretches and inflates an enormous rubber hand to grab the dragon Kaido from the sky (p. 12), swings and slams him, and catches Kaido’s Blast Breath to inflate it like a balloon (p. 16). Supreme King (Conqueror’s) Haki radiates, felt by the Beasts Pirates (p. 12). Luffy describes the form as doing “everything I wanted to do,” with an uncertain limit (“I think I can last a bit longer… my heartbeat sounds so funny”).
The Five Elders name the fruit’s true identity the same chapter (the Sun God Nika, the Warrior of Liberation); the awakening is the legend’s payoff.
