Etymology

Confidence: high · リューボシ = 星 -boshi (‘star’, the Neptune-family suffix) + ryū-, taken from リュウグウノツカイ ryūgū-no-tsukai — the Japanese name for the giant oarfish, literally “messenger/envoy of the Dragon Palace (Ryūgū)” — which is precisely his on-page species, a giant oarfish merman. The prefix simultaneously reads as 龍 ryū (‘dragon’), so his very name embeds the Ryugu / Ryūjin dragon-palace mythos his family personifies.
