The seed
Drake’s hidden allegiance pays out further on the raid floor: he attacks Kaido ’s own Numbers and tells Luffy “our goals are aligned,” and is branded a “traitor/spy” by the Beasts (swarmed by the Numbers + a gatling weapon, Apoo gloating; he survives). His ex-Marine / SWORD allegiance is acted on, but the concrete objective and the deeper Marine-past payoff stay withheld.
The “fallen naval officer” thread breaks into the open in-world: the Beasts discover Drake freed Trafalgar Law , denounce him as a traitor, and Drake turns his Allosaurus power on his own crew, declaring “I am an army of one ” and asking to fight for Luffy . Why this matters
The “one anomaly in the lineup” install: when a cohort is introduced uniformly (name + bounty) but ONE member gets an extra on-page backstory tag, that tag is the thread Oda intends to pull. A defector among the rookies is exactly the kind of double-allegiance detail paid off far downstream.
