Chapter 1192: We Won't Stand for It!!!

Summary

The blast that closed Ch. 1190 hurls Prince Loki (still gripping the hammer Ragnir) and the bandaged Scopper Gaban clear across the Elbaf forest (p.2), but the one left winded is Imu — the true form lands hard, huffing, then hacks a dry cough into the dirt (p.3). Loki rises with lightning crackling off Ragnir and goes back on the attack (“ORAAAAA!!!” / “You’re mine!!!”, p.4), and Luffy, still in his Gear-5/Nika form, dives in behind him: “Gum-Gum… Dawn… Kraken…” — his arms flowering into octopus tentacles — ”…Gatling!!!” (pp.5–6), a barrage that punches through a swarm of Imu’s Omen black flames, here drawn for the first time as grinning, talking imp-faces that jeer “Give it up!” and “Gua ha ha!” Imu answers the whole storm with a flat “Too slow.” and incants “Tohu.” / “Vohu.” → “Shield of Emptiness — Tohu va-Vohu!!” (pp.7–8), a black wall Luffy can only bruise his hands on. Imu’s full true form is finally shown whole (p.9): colossal black feathered wings, eye-studded tendril-arms, two ornate blades held aloft — and it plucks Luffy out of the air and slams him into the ground. The watching giants beg Hajrudin to get “the kid” out (“He doesn’t even have a reason to fight for—”), and Usopp — in a horned Elbaf helmet, perched on a giant’s arm — cuts them off with the chapter’s spine: the Straw Hats owe this island. Little Garden opened their way forward, “by Dorry and Brogy!!”; Enies Lobby was assisted “by Oimo and Kashii!!”; Hajrudin and his New Giant Pirates are “my henchmen!!” (an off-panel voice dryly corrects: “Straw Hat’s, but whatever.”). When a giant insists Luffy has taken “the form of a god… that Elbaph has awaited throughout its history,” Usopp refuses the whole frame: “No, I don’t!! I don’t care!! People compare him to Nika or Joyboy… or even Roger, at times!!!” — a legend, a heroic warrior, fine, that’s your business — “but if you do anything to take away his freedom… we won’t stand for it!!” (pp.10–11). He hails Gaban (“Hey! Left arm of the King of Pirates!!”), insists nothing about Luffy has changed “whether dressed in white or an Emperor of the Sea,” thanks him for protecting Luffy, and roars “Ain’t that right, Elbaph?!!” Loki keeps swinging; Gaban grins “This one’s extra big”; Imu keeps coughing (p.12). Then Luffy has “a great idea”: he plants himself flat against the face of Ragnir’s hammer-head (“BAM!!”), grins “Swing through, Loki!!” at a baffled Loki (“Huh?”), and rides the swing out as a projectile (“GONK!!”) — “I’m comin’ for ya, devil!!” (p.13). Loki launches him with “You can’t have Elbaph!!” and Luffy fires “Gum-Gum… Dawn… Thor… Bullet!!!” straight into Imu’s re-raised Tohu va-Vohu (pp.14–15) — the shield cracks, the blow lands, and the chapter ends on Imu hacking a dark spray while a battered Luffy grins.

New reveals

• The 1190 cliffhanger resolves without a casualty: the “overwhelming force” blew back Loki and Gaban, and both are up and fighting; Gaban is bandaged but conscious and cracking jokes (pp.2, 4, 12). Luffy’s “OLD MAN?!” scream from 1190 is not answered with a death.
• Imu is visibly failing. Before Luffy has landed anything, Imu’s true form is on the ground “HUFF… HUFF…” and coughing (p.3), coughs again mid-fight (p.12), and coughs a dark spray after the final hit (p.15). This is the on-page continuation of the @1182 “Great Imu’s body is not meant to withstand the outside!!” line and the @1179 wounded arrival.
• New named Imu technique — “Shield of Emptiness — Tohu va-Vohu” (p.8), incanted as two separate words in the preceding panels: “Tohu.” / “Vohu.” (p.7). It is drawn as a wall of the black Omen substance with an eye-studded blade at its heart; Luffy’s Gear-5 fists bounce off it (“Feels like I’m breakin’ my hands!!”).
• The Omen black flames are animate and articulate. Previously black fire/mist, here they swarm as grinning heads with eyes and teeth that speak: “Ack!!”, ”?!!”, “Give it up!”, “Gua ha ha!”, “Whoa!”, “Hmm?” (pp.5–6).
• Imu’s true form, full body (p.9): two enormous black feathered wings, a gray white-spotted torso, black horns, stitch-scars, black tendril-arms whose sleeves are covered in open eyes, and two ornate hilted blades held aloft above the head (uncaptioned this chapter). A close-up (p.13) shows small skull motifs worked into the body’s pattern.
• New Luffy techniques: Gum-Gum Dawn Kraken Gatling (pp.5–6 — arms become octopus tentacles, “NYORP”, then a Gatling barrage) and Gum-Gum Dawn Thor Bullet (pp.14–15 — launched off Ragnir). Both carry the prefix “Dawn.”
• Loki is fighting for Elbaf beside Luffy — “You can’t have Elbaph!!” (p.14) — and lets Luffy ride his hammer swing on command (“Swing through, Loki!!”, p.13).
• Usopp’s freedom doctrine (title drop, p.11): the giants may put their hopes on Luffy as a legend or a heroic warrior, “but if you do anything to take away his freedom… we won’t stand for it!!”
• Usopp explicitly rejects the Nika/Joy Boy/Roger comparisons as irrelevant to who Luffy is: “No, I don’t!! I don’t care!!” (p.10). He argues Luffy “still has the right to choose death with pride” (p.11).

Open questions raised

• What is the Omen, if its flames have faces, laughter and opinions? Are they summoned wills, absorbed souls, or an extension of Imu’s own?
• Is “Tohu va-Vohu” a one-off defensive art or the doctrine-name for Imu’s whole power set (cf. Domination)?
• The two ornate blades Imu holds aloft on p.9 are uncaptioned — are they the previously-named Nemesis/Gram, or two more of the nineteen? ANSWERED by the technique name: they are Tohu (混沌剣 “Chaos Sword”) and Vohu (虚無剣 “Nothingness Sword”) — two of the nineteen, roll-called Ch. 1189 (VIZ 1189 p.15 letters it “VOHU”, as does 1192; the vault carries one spelling for the on-page name).
