Summary

A flashback to the “great age of pirates.” First, the seas’ most famous idols: the Kuja Pirates — a band of warrior women from Amazon Lily captained by Gloriosa (future Grandma Nyon), whose beauty was outshone only by her First Mate Shakuyaku (the future Sabaody bar-owner “Shakky”). Shakky was so beautiful that the mighty made fools of themselves before her — Gol D. Roger repeatedly attacked the Kuja not to plunder but to “seize her,” and Scopper Gaban was left dazzled. Roger, Garp, and Rocks were the era’s legends. Later, when Shakuyaku became Empress, Kuja popularity soared. The scene then shifts to Ida’s Bar, Elbaf, where a young, lonely Prince Loki — motherless, neglected by his busy father King Harald — is saved from drowning and lashes out at his would-be caretaker Ida, declaring he wants “to be free, like Rocks.” Every time Rocks came to court Harald into his crew, Loki begged to join and was refused. The chapter closes on the Rocks Pirates themselves months after they seized Pirate Island: Rocks D. Xebec recruiting a new kid while his crew — young Kaido, Charlotte Linlin, Captain John, Streusen, Mobster Kyo (future Silver Axe), and the catfish fish-man Barbell — argue over dreams. Rocks wants two Devil Fruits (one on Elbaf, unlockable only if Harald eats it) and the legendary frozen giants “Galleila,” and declares “Elbaf is the key to taking down the Holy Land.”

New reveals

• Shakuyaku = Kuja Pirates First Mate. In the golden age the Kuja were captained by Gloriosa; Shakuyaku (“Shakky”) was her First Mate and the more famous beauty, who later “took the mantle of Empress” (p. 8, p. 11). Refines the 1059 reveal that Shakky was a former Kuja captain/Empress.
• Tritoma — labelled “Amazon Lily Empress, two generations later”; a Kuja shown among the golden-age crew, pointing out the mountains of fan-mail for Shakky (p. 5).
• The Roger Pirates were smitten with Shakky. Roger attacked the Kuja repeatedly just to “seize her”; Gaban (“OOH! Gaban”) was dazzled; Rayleigh (“Ray”) watched his crew make fools of themselves (p. 6–9). This is the origin of the Rayleigh–Shakky connection later seen at Sabaody.

• Young Loki’s grief: he lost his mother and Harald was “too busy to stay home”; the giant Ida saved him from drowning and wanted to be his surrogate mother, which he angrily rejects (p. 12–13).
