Chapter 1135: Friends' Cups

Summary

The Straw Hats settle into the giants’ village on Elbaf. In the Owl Library, the crew meets Biblo, the centuries-old giant owl who “lords over this library” — any book that enters his territory grows to enormous size (a giant suspects he ate the Grow-Grow Fruit, which grows inorganic matter — “the perfect power for a land of giants”). The library is mostly archaeology and history; Robin, nostalgic, says being there “takes her back,” and breaks off to catch up with Saul later. Outside, Luffy — decked in Elbaf warrior gear — torments the village’s gentle giant children for being crybabies, is sneak-attacked by the wild-child Collun, and answers with a Gear-Three Elephant Gun. We meet Ripley, a giantess whose common-law husband is a human ex-pirate who “ages” and “can hold his own against Elbaf warriors,” and whose child is half-human. Franky realizes the whole island is the Jewel Tree Adam — the oldest Adam tree, the wood that built the Sunny — and Gerd outfits the crew in handmade human-sized warrior clothes. Meanwhile, two hooded intruders infiltrate Aurust Castle in the Western Village, brutally cutting down the giant guards while demanding the location of the imprisoned Loki, the patricide who killed beloved King Harald. The village throws a three-day feast for the Straw Hats — “we raise these friends’ cups!!” — reuniting Luffy with Stansen, the giant once nearly auctioned off at Sabaody. The chapter ends as Chief Beardhill Jarul (Hero of the Giants, oldest in the world, age 408) lumbers in — a sword run all the way through his skull, which he shrugs off as “the helmet saved my life.”
