Summary
At the rear passage of Impel Down a small boat sets the clock on the saga’s central event: “Portgaz D. Ace will be escorted out tomorrow morning” — his public execution is fixed for 3 PM the following day, roughly twenty-nine hours away — while Hancock, en route, thinks only of Luffy’s safety. Aboard a Marine warship Vice Admiral Momonga relays New-World intelligence: “Red-Haired” Shanks has been clashing with Kaido, “one of the Four Emperors,” who is said to be moving to kill Whitebeard amid the coming chaos — Headquarters is on high alert and considers war with Whitebeard unavoidable; all forces are ordered to Marineford. Inside the prison, Luffy, Buggy, Mr. 3 and Bon Clay crash through the floor of the Level 3 Well-Hole Tower down into Level 4: Inferno Hell — a blast-furnace level with a Lake of Blood where Jailer Beasts drag prisoners to burn. Warden Magellan mobilizes Impel Down’s “all-star team” — vice warden Hannyabal, chief guard Sadi, and the Jailer Beasts (Minokoala, Minorhinoceros, Minozebra) — and splits the guards into three groups to seal the stairways. Luffy bolts for the kitchen, blasting jailers aside with Gum-Gum Fireworks — and is brought up short when Magellan himself rises before him in his towering venom-demon form: “Criminal scum!!”
New reveals
- Level 4, “Inferno Hell” is shown for the first time: a furnace level superheated to cook prisoners, with a central Lake of Blood (the “bubbling pond of blood”) directly under the Well-Hole; Devil-Fruit users who fall in “sink like stones.”
- Ace’s execution is scheduled for 3 PM the next day (~29 hours away); he is to be escorted out the following morning — “that will be the end of it.”
- Kaido is named as “one of the Four Emperors” and is rumored to be exploiting the crisis to kill Whitebeard, with Shanks interfering in the New World — Marine HQ is on high alert.
- Vice Admiral Momonga appears, ordering his fleet to Marineford; war with Whitebeard is deemed unavoidable.
- Magellan (warden) leads the prison’s counter-force and appears at chapter’s end in his giant venom/poison-demon form.
- Daz Bones (Mr. 1), former Baroque Works assassin, is a prisoner in Level 4.
- The Jailer Beasts are named: Minokoala (Feisty), Minorhinoceros (Quiet), Minozebra (Shy) — with Minotaurus (“the Minotaur”) reported defeated/knocked out after falling with Luffy through the Well-Hole.
- Hannyabal (vice warden) and Sadi (chief guard) are part of the all-star team; Sadi craves to “assault” the prisoners.

- What exactly is Magellan’s power, and can Luffy get past the warden at all?
- Will the Yonko (Kaido vs. Shanks) clash in the New World keep them out of the coming war?
- Can Luffy reach and free Ace before the 29-hour execution clock runs out?
