Structural lore — Big Mom’s soul-animated objects and creatures. The unsolved questions live in Vault/Threads/; this is what the world IS.

What we know

• Ch. 827: Homies are objects and living things that Big Mom has given souls / faces / speech to throughout Totto Land — talking flowers, a talking sun, sentient chocolate, a flying carpet (Rabian), and jelly (Nitro).
• Ch. 827: They serve, sing, and report to “Mama,” populating the landscape and acting as her eyes/voice (p. 8–9, 14–17).
• Ch. 829: A “tour group” of living cream puffs talks, flees, and even begs to be eaten (“All we ever wanted… was to be yummy!!”) (pp. 7, 16). The same chapter shows the source-power side: Big Mom extracts lifespan from people (“treat or life” — 40 years ripped from her son Charlotte Moscato, pp. 12–14), tying the homie phenomenon to her soul/lifespan power. The animating Devil Fruit is still not named on-page this chapter.
• Ch. 832: The animate landscape is shown defending the island — in the Seducing Woods (controlled by Charlotte Brulee) the trees, flowers, and ground talk and re-route intruders in circles (pp.3, 11), snail gate-guards at Lake Aprico declare “all clear” (p.13), and a “rabbit” pursuer is noted as “not a mink” with possible devil-fruit powers (p.4). The phenomenon is shown unnamed on-page this chapter (the term “homies” does not appear) — the @0832 reader’s placeholder Living Objects of Whole Cake Island is FOLDED here, not forked (aliases already carries it). • Ch. 835: The animating Devil Fruit is NAMED on-page for the first time — Big Mom’s Soul-Soul Fruit (p. 15-16). A tree-homie (Big Mom’s discarded ex-husband, bribed with apple juice) explains the mechanic to Luffy: Big Mom collects souls/lifespan from her subjects (the Totto Land toll) and pours “pure soul” into objects, plants, and animals to bring them to life — “Big Mom’s little incarnations made of pure soul” — the true nature of Totto Land (p. 16). She can manipulate souls at will, but cannot put souls into corpses or other living people. Charlotte Brulee’s Seducing Woods homies swarm and copy intruders; even animals can be “personified” (the talking-rabbit confusion was actually the mink Carrot).
• Ch. 836: The homies obey Big Mom’s soul — and her vivre card commands them. The Seducing Woods creatures “cannot disobey” Big Mom, and they freeze when Nami presents Big Mom’s vivre card because they sense their master’s soul in it (pp. 12–13). Named woods-homies: the tree-king Kingbaum (“Master of the Seducing Woods”) and the performer Randolph; the broader Seducing Woods Team are Big Mom’s soul-animated guardians. This installs the vivre card as a recurring lever over the homie ecosystem. • Ch. 842: Big Mom’s homies obey her Vivre Card: Nami, holding Lola’s-mother’s card, commands the tree-homie Kingbaum and weather-homies to fight Cracker (“she’s using the power of Mama’s Vivre Card against us!!”, pp. 2-4). • Ch. 843: The vivre-card authority and two special weather-homies are spelled out (pp. 8-9): Big Mom’s vivre card holds absolute power over the homies — even her own children are forbidden to hold a piece (p. 8), and Nami is revealed to carry one. Two named homies embody her weather control: the sun Prometheus (right hand) and the lightning clouds Zeus (left hand) — “Linlin can control the weather!!!” (p. 9). The Seducing Woods are restated as full of homies loyal to her. • Ch. 845: Big Mom’s weather-control through her homies is shown in action on the wedding’s eve. Her rage storms the seas around Whole Cake Chateau via the sun-homie Prometheus and the cloud-homie Zeus (pp. 3-4); a syrup-homie offers its “rain” to be drunk and food-homies beg to be eaten (pp. 6, 8-10) — the territory’s animate fabric on display. The tree-homie Kingbaum escorts Team Luffy and warns of the rising storm (pp. 2-3).

• Ch. 848: The Whole Cake Chateau’s Chess Peacekeepers are defined as homies — castle soldiers with human souls inserted through Big Mom’s powers (p. 13), ranked King / Queen / Rook / Bishop / Knight / Pawn. Because they run on souls, they are downed by Brook’s Soul Scream (“You’re moved by your souls!!”, pp. 13-15) — the same soul-vulnerability the homie ecosystem shares. The Seducing Woods homies remain commandable by a Charlotte vivre card (the Lola’s-mother card, p. 7).

• Ch. 853: Big Mom’s three special homies are captioned on-page (p. 3): Prometheus (the sun, right hand) and Zeus (the storm cloud, left hand) — both established @0843 — and, newly named, Napoleon (a bicorn hat). Their souls are “on a whole other level,” “so they might as well be a part of me,” marking the trio as Big Mom’s personal, top-tier soul-homies.

• Ch. 859: Nitro (the jelly) and Rabian (the carpet) are named as Pudding’s personal homies — alone with them in her room, Pudding drops her sweet act and confides her wedding-assassination plan (“It’s too much for me, Nitro, Rabian…”, p. 17). Confirms even a Charlotte child’s attendant homies carry souls and serve as confidants.

• Ch. 867: Earliest on-page homie-creation shown . In Big Mom’s Elbaf origin flashback, Mother Carmel gives the festival fire “a voice,” names it “Pandora,” and it manifests as a sun-faced homie that greets “Hi, Mother!” (pp. 5-7) — predating Big Mom’s present-day sun-homie Prometheus. Establishes the soul/voice-giving power as the source of the homie phenomenon, here publicly credited to “the Sun God.”

• Ch. 874: Special (self-soul) homies vs. ordinary homies. Zeus/Prometheus carry pieces of Big Mom’s own soul (“the cloud was created from Mama’s soul” / “she gave me her soul,” pp. 10-11), unlike ordinary homies animated from others’ fragments. Loyalty is hierarchical: the Seducing Woods homies cannot disobey “an order from the Queen” even against their own master Kingbaum, and a homie that “decides to betray Mama” is destroyed on the spot (Prometheus incinerates Kingbaum, pp. 13-15). Yet a soul-homie’s appetite is exploitable — Nami turns Zeus with weather-food and he defects (“I WILL!!!”, pp. 8-12). • Ch. 875: The vivre-card lever has a ceiling. When Big Mom is physically present commanding her homies, the Lola’s-mother card “isn’t going to work anymore” (p. 5) — her direct soul-authority overrides a card carrying only an imprint of it. The cloud-homie Zeus is shown to be a glutton who disobeys even Big Mom for a storm-cloud treat, and the sun-homie Prometheus is wielded as a compressed-flame blade (“Murasame”) — both demonstrating the weather-homie powers in offense/defense (pp. 6–13). • Ch. 876: Big Mom’s homie-control has a limit. When a soul-object is carried out of her reach, the memories of the soul’s original owner come flooding back temporarily, and during that confusion the homie is NOT under Mama’s control — letting the Seducing Woods forest-homies break free and escape (pp. 13-14, via Rabian’s low flight). Also: a homie can express guilt / divided loyalty — Zeus, used against Big Mom by Nami, apologizes that hitting the Straw Hats “wasn’t my choice” (p. 17). • Ch. 884: The Territory Sea Slugs are a homie surveillance network — and Big Mom can sing them free. Big Mom’s seafloor-spanning net of sea-slug homies across Totto Land’s waters is revealed when they all vanish at once: lost to her craving haze, Big Mom literally sings them free (“working is no way to spend your hard-earned weekend ♪”), disabling her own intelligence net and letting the fleeing Sunny escape unseen (pp. 16-17). On-page demonstration that even Big Mom’s surveillance apparatus is soul-animated homies subject to her whims — here turned off by her own song.

• Ch. 889: Napoleon’s blade form is shown for the first time. Big Mom orders her bicorne-hat homie Napoleon to “change into your blade” (p. 14), confirming the top-tier hat-homie can transform into a sword. The same chapter shows the soul-homie loyalty rules at work: Prometheus berates Zeus for letting Nami “use you like a tool,” and warns that betraying Mama again over treats means “you’re done for” (p. 11). • Ch. 890: A special homie is wielded, then a special homie is lost. Napoleon’s blade form ignites into the named giant flaming sword “Cognac” on Big Mom’s command (pp. 7-8), and the lightning-cloud homie Zeus is drained “into oblivion” by Nami’s Clima-Tact and offered servitude to her (“Will you be my servant?… Or will you die?”, pp. 15-20) — the first time a Big Mom soul-homie is captured and turned toward the Straw Hat side by force. Robbed of Zeus, Big Mom falls back on her remaining special homie Prometheus. • Ch. 1011: Big Mom creates a replacement special homie — Hera. With the lightning-cloud homie Zeus defected to Nami, Big Mom forms a new thunder-cloud homie, Hera (via the Soru Soru no Mi) on the Onigashima rooftop and powers the lightning blast Fulgora with her (pp. 3–5). Completes her Greek-myth special-homie set (Prometheus / Zeus / Napoleon / Hera).

• Ch. 1013: A homie can devour another homie’s soul. The new homie Hera is fully deployed as Zeus’s replacement, and critically — on Big Mom’s order — Hera devours Zeus’s soul to grow stronger (“Thanks for the meal, Mr. Zeus!!!”). A homie stripped of its soul becomes an inert husk: the drained Zeus won’t even eat his beloved black balls. • Ch. 1016: A homie facing soul-devour can reseat its soul into a nearby object. As Hera bites down to absorb him, Zeus’s soul “slips out of [his] original body” and into Nami’s Sorcery Climate Baton — “I’ve been reborn!!” He fights on as a weapon-homie (“right arm of Nami”), but cannot leave the vessel without Mama’s power. • Ch. 1040: A homie casts “Silence” — and paradoxically silences its own master. One of Big Mom’s homies (“I’ll save you, Mama!! This is what my savior would have done”) unleashes a Silence that “extinguishes all sound created by [Big Mom’s] influence” — disabling Big Mom’s own voice, her Soul Pocus, and her ability to command Prometheus and Hera to save her (pp. 5–9). Demonstrates that homie-bound sound is itself part of her “influence,” so a homie’s sound-power can boomerang onto the soul-commands it depends on. See Soru Soru no Mi.

Etymology

• Surface meaning: ホーミーズ (Hōmīzu) is the English slang “homies” — homeboys; one’s close friends, one’s own people/crew.
• Pun layer: doubly apt — Big Mom animates each one with a sliver of her own soul (Soru Soru no Mi), so they are, literally and figuratively, her people.
• Real-world reference: the talking, moving household objects reference the enchanted servants of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, fitting the Big Mom Pirates’ fairy-tale / fantasy-fiction theme.

Special-homie names (the trio)

Big Mom’s three top-tier homies double the crew’s pattern: a real-world figure/deity layered over a food pun.

• Napoleon (ナポレオン Naporeon) — newly named Ch. 853 (p. 2–3); a bicorn hat with the epithet “Napoleon the Bicorne” (二角帽(バイコーン)のナポレオン, Baikōn no Naporeon). Named for Napoleon Bonaparte, who made the bicorne his signature attire — hence the homie’s hat form. Food layer (per the Big Mom theme): “Napoleon” is also a name for the mille-feuille pastry, the Danish Napoleonshat cake, a Napoléon-grade cognac, the Royal Ann (“Napoleon”) cherry, and a candy brand. • Prometheus (sun-homie) & Zeus (storm-cloud homie) — both first named Ch. 843 (etymology held on their own notes Prometheus / Zeus): the fire-bringing Titan of Greek myth for the miniature sun, and the sky/thunder king of Olympus for the lightning cloud.
• Pandora (パンドラ Pandora) — Carmel’s sun-homie, first named Ch. 867 (pp. 5-7) and the only known homie not created by Big Mom; the predecessor to Linlin’s own sun-homie Prometheus. In Greek myth, Pandora (“all-gifts”) is the first human woman, fashioned by the gods and sent by Zeus as punishment to humanity for Prometheus’s theft of fire — so the Pandora → Prometheus naming pair is mythologically exact: Carmel’s fire-homie literally precedes Linlin’s, just as the myth’s Pandora follows from Prometheus’s stolen fire. Chronology / structure
