Summary
In the aftermath of Nami’s colossal Climate-Baton lightning strike (boosted by the cloud-homie Zeus), the Straw Hats wonder if Big Mom was destroyed — but she claws her way out of a vast crater, still screaming “CAKE!! WEDDING!!” in an unstoppable hunger-pang (craving-illness) rampage. As she lunges for Luffy, Pudding and Chiffon swoop in on the flying carpet-homie Rabian to help. Pudding’s emotions flip-flop wildly — she alternates a sweet, smitten register (“because I really didn’t want you to die, Sanji…”) with a hostile assassin act — but delivers the plan: Sanji must bake “the one cake that can possibly stop Mama,” a substitute wedding cake to satisfy her craving. Chiffon agrees to risk her life out of a debt she owes Lola. Sanji, Pudding and Chiffon ride Rabian toward Cacao Island’s Chocolat Town for ingredients while Big Mom hurls her “Ikoku” attack at them. Flying low through the Seducing Woods, Rabian’s passage makes the forest-homies recall their original owners’ memories, briefly freeing them from Big Mom’s control so they can escape. Meanwhile Brook and Chopper defend the Thousand Sunny against Big Mom Pirates pouring out of Brulee’s mirror, debating whether to break it. Sanji resolves to whip up a cake good enough to “knock Big Mom’s lights out.”
New reveals
- Big Mom is unkillable in this state. A direct hit from the giant lightning bolt only buries her; she splits the ground and climbs out, still craving “cake / wedding.” A homie reiterates: “When Big Mom is having hunger pangs… she will NEVER be stopped!!!” (pp. 3-5).
- The cake plan. Pudding/Chiffon’s offer: make the exact cake Big Mom is fixated on, distract her with it, and the crew is let go. Pudding frames it as “coincidence” that the cake she wants is the same one Mama wants (pp. 9-10).
- Pudding’s divided heart. Her on-page emotions “flip-flop like crazy” — tsundere swings between threatening Sanji and confessing she came because she didn’t want him to die (pp. 7-10, 14).
- Chiffon’s motive: a debt to Lola. “I owe you one for Lola!! If I’m going to pay it back, I’ll risk my life to do it!!” (p. 9) — her twin sister Lola.
- Homie memory-flood mechanic. When a soul-homie is removed from Big Mom’s vicinity, “the memories of the soul’s original owner come flooding back temporarily” — during that confusion they are NOT under Mama’s control and can flee the Seducing Woods (pp. 13-14).
- Zeus’s coerced obedience. Now firing on Nami’s side, Zeus apologizes for the bolt that also hit the Straw Hats: “Sorry!! It wasn’t my choice!!” (p. 17).
- Destination named: ingredients for the cake are in Chocolat Town on Cacao Island (map, p. 10).

(No clean within-window seed resolves on-page; Pudding’s genuine feelings for Sanji extend the post-betrayal turn rather than flipping a still-pending seed. The hidden-third-eye seed was already confirmed Ch. 853.)

- Pages 13-14: The Seducing-Woods homies’ memories flood back (“FLASHBACK!!!”) and they break free of Big Mom’s control.
- Page 17: Zeus apologizes (“It wasn’t my choice!!”); Big Mom comments the “lightning cloud egg sure was tasty.”
- Page 17: Sanji close-up resolving to bake the cake — chapter’s closing line.
- Page 18 (SBS Question Corner, vol. p. 136): (1) Nami “is a looter” — she rustles new clothes off a defeated soldier in Ch. 852’s background. (2) The hanafuda hand Shanks holds on Ch. 862’s cover is “Four Lights” (Shikō), pronounced like “Four Emperors” (Yonko) — Oda confirms it nods to Shanks’ status as an Emperor.
Open questions raised
- How will the substitute cake actually subdue Big Mom, and can Sanji’s team reach Chocolat Town and bake it in time?
- Why is Zeus firing against his own will, and whose side is he really on now?
- Can Brook & Chopper hold the Sunny against the endless Big Mom Pirates flowing out of Brulee’s mirror — and will they break it?
