Power limits & weaknesses

• Universal: water/sea immobilization (canon DF axiom).
• Water as kryptonite (Ch. 170 install pre-load): liquid water on contact temporarily solidifies the sand body. The arc-climax payoff exploits this — Luffy weaponizes water against Crocodile in their final fight.
• Logia intangibility — physical strikes pass through the sand body. Paramecia-class rubber alone does not defeat this; Luffy needs an external trigger (water) to land hits.
• Liquid (not specifically water) hardens the sand-body (Ch. 204 p. 15). Luffy demonstrates that blood solidifies the sand identically to water (“Blood can make sand harden too, right?”). The kryptonite axiom is therefore any liquid, not just water — which removes the supply-limit on the counter (a fighter carries his own blood). Water defeats moisture-drain at any volume (Ch. 178 install)

Confirmed on-page Ch. 178 pp. 11-12: a single canteen of water poured onto a fully-mummified body part restores it to full function. Luffy uses Toh-Toh’s Yuba water (gifted Ch. 0165) to reverse the mummification of his arm mid-fight. The water-as-anti-Logia mechanic is established on the user’s victim, not yet against Crocodile’s sand-body itself — the offensive water-application is forward-canon to the arc-climax rematches. Crocodile is visibly surprised by the cure (“You still want to fight?”, p. 12) and has no fly-counter.

Moisture-drain palm as anti-water counter (Ch. 0200 install)

Confirmed on-page Ch. 200 p. 9: Crocodile’s palm “can suck the moisture out of anything” — including incoming wet attacks. The Ch. 0199 wet-fist water-counter is dried before it lands. But the drain has a volume ceiling: when Luffy delivers a full barrel’s worth of water from inside his own body (Luffy as “Water Luffy”, pp. 17-19), the moisture-drain cannot keep up and the sand-body solidifies on contact, taking a Gum-Gum Water Bazooka. The water-weakness is therefore real but defeats the user only at overwhelming volume — pre-loads the forward-canon arc-finale where blood (which cannot be drained fast enough) finishes Crocodile. Logia-naming-convention pattern

Suna-suna (スナスナ) follows the same character-name = fruit-name onomatopoeia Logia-naming-grammar as moku-moku (Smoker, smoke billowing) and mera-mera (Ace, flame crackling). The fruit’s name is the SFX of the element it controls. This naming-grammar is now canonized across three consecutive Logia introductions — the convention is load-bearing for the series.

Egyptian-desert encoding

The sand-element pairs with Crocodile’s full Egyptian-coded thematic stack (sobek/sebek crocodile-god, the desert kingdom of Alabasta, the hook-prosthetic, pyramid casino architecture at Rain Dinners Casino, etc.). The fruit is not merely a generic desert-Logia but Crocodile’s element-of-conquest — the same sand that has buried Yuba (via Dance Powder / engineered drought, Crocodile King-Framed Dance-Powder Plot Reveal) is the substance of his body.

Marineford — sand-launch assist for Luffy (Ch. 570)

• Crocodile uses a surge of sand to lift and launch Luffy across Inazuma’s “Bridge of Life” toward the execution platform — an offensive-mobility/assist use rather than the moisture-drain seen in Alabasta (pp. 11–12). Cross-link Choki Choki no Mi, Luffy.

• Ch. 0201 pp. 7-12: Crocodile names dehydration as the essence of the Suna Suna no Mi (“The essence of my Sand-Sand power lies in dehydration!”). His right hand dries up everything it touches — trees, rocks, the earth, water, statues — turning the Alubarna palace courtyard/lawn into desert and collapsing the floor into a sand-pit (technique-name Ground Secco / Ground Death). This is the widest-area terrain-erasure mode shown to date, escalating beyond the Ch. 0166 mummification and Ch. 0173 weather-engineering tiers. Ch. 0198 — Crocodile struck by Luffy out of the dust (intangibility-failure hint)

• Ch. 198 — Crocodile is struck by Luffy’s returning fist out of the dust storm (DON!!, pp. 16-19) — the Logia sand-body does not intangibly nullify this blow (“IMPOSSIBLE!”), the first on-page hint of the water/blood vulnerability that breaks his intangibility (cf. the Ch. 0177 p. 19 sand-bead-off-face tell). Evidence add — the mechanic is not yet explained on-page. Cross-link Luffy, Crocodile.

Ch. 0179 — first on-page kill + weather-warfare deployment

• First on-page Sand-Sand-no-Mi kill of a named character (Toh-Toh, Ch. 179 pp. 6-7). Mummification kill-mode (SWUMP…!!) — moisture-extraction-via-touch reaches kill-tier on a named NPC. • First on-page Logia-engineered weather-warfare (Ch. 179 p. 9). • Hook + Logia composition reveals combat-tier hybrid (Ch. 179 pp. 7-8). When Luffy attempts a punch, Crocodile’s body Logia-disperses to allow the attack to pass through — and the prosthetic hook (a non-Logia tool) is positioned to impale on Luffy’s follow-through. First on-page hook-impalement of an opponent — the hook is now combat-canonical as a kill-weapon, not just a wardrobe-tell.

Logia-tier sand-body intangibility (Ch. 177)

• LOAD-BEARING — first on-page Logia-tier sand-body intangibility demonstration (Ch. 177 pp. 12-19). Luffy’s Gum-Gum Pistol passes through Crocodile’s head (p. 12, WOING / WSHH… / WSHH…); Crocodile (cigar still lit, undisturbed): “HM.” (p. 13). Subsequent Gum-Gum Stamp (p. 14), Gatling Gun (p. 15), Bazooka (p. 16), and Battle-Axe (p. 17) all pass through; the body dissolves to sand and reforms (GRAAAH! / WOOO!!). First on-page demonstration that physical attacks pass through Crocodile’s sand-body. The class-name Logia is not yet on-page in this chapter — the mechanic is shown.

• Final-panel sand-bead-off-face tell (Ch. 177 p. 19) — Crocodile’s face starts beading sand (SNAFF / PLUP PLUP PLUP) after Luffy’s final move. Implies the fruit has a liquid/moisture vulnerability — wet sand cannot maintain the intangibility-tier-transformation. (Mechanism not shown in this chapter — forward-canon: water/blood is the workaround.)
