Summary

Title splash (p. 1) — Pell in falcon-form (helmeted) wings out across the desert with the Going Merry visible far below; chapter title SHOWDOWN AT ALUBARNA.

On the post-Rainbase Strawhat march (pp. 2-4), the crew is mounted on a team of giant red crabs (“Big Pincers”) racing across the Sandora Desert toward Alubarna. Zoro drags the lead-rope (UMF!!! UMF!!!), straining; Sanji distracts a distressed Nami with crab-facts (“all the crabs in the world ceased to worry about being bow-legged” / “Wow! So that’s why crabs walk sideways!”) — Chopper and Usopp play along (“Is it some kind of crab?!”). Sanji’s barb at Zoro (“They’re incompetent, especially that muscle-bound fool… who got clobbered by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea!!”) ignites a fight (“Why you… watch your mouth… you moss head.” / “No way, pretty brow boy?! Me?! Scared?!” / “I’ll say it — you’re scared, Zolo. You think Luffy might lose.”). The chapter pivots into Luffy’s Yuba flashback (pp. 5-9), keying the conversation that preceded the off-page Ch. 178 Sandstorm defeat. At Yuba — captioned FORMER REBEL BASE CAMP — Toh-Toh proudly shows Luffy the water-filled dig-pit he extracted from the damp sand: “See… look at all of it!! …Luffy? Didn’t I tell you… This is a strong land. Water!! It’s filling the hole!!! Yuba is still alive!!!” (pp. 5-6). The aquifer-intact subtextual payoff of Ch. 165 cashes — physical proof the desert-encroachment is artificial. Then Crocodile’s silhouette appears on the dunes (“YUBA WILL DIE. …That sandstorm will destroy it. Then the rebels will grow even more enraged… and their misguided compassion will rip this kingdom apart.”, p. 6). Cut to Rainbase (pp. 10-11). Smoker stands by his Marine vehicle (VROOM…!!) handing Tashigi something small and metallic — a Sea-Prism-Stone bullet (KRRK..!! / “Whenever events like these occur, history is about to be made!!”). He delegates the field-command: “Up to you. Or do you want me to assist the royal army?! Decide for yourself what you want to do there!! Or do you want me to go after the Straw Hat gang? Something urgent came up. I’m heading out to sea. Make sure we’re in communication at all times.” / Tashigi: “What?! What’s that supposed to mean?” Smoker, walking away: “I’ll take full responsibility, whatever happens. Just follow your own sense of justice. Pay close attention to what becomes of this country. …Should it fall or should it survive…” (jacket text-margin gloss notes “JUSTICE” on the back). Tashigi confirms the new command: “Yes, sir! Tashigi!” → “Sergeant!! What are your orders?!” / “I want all soldiers armed to the teeth!! We’re going to Alubarna!!! We’re after the pirate Straw Hat Luffy and his gang!!” / “Yes, ma’am!!!” (p. 11) — first on-page Tashigi-as-independent-field-commander beat; Smoker has handed her a Sea-Prism-Stone-tipped bullet and walked away to chase something off-arc.

Cut to Koza’s rebel army on the march (pp. 12) — TARRUMP TARRUMP — Koza on horseback at the head of the cavalry column (“We will deliver Alabasta!! We won’t let you destroy it!!! Just you wait, Cobra!!!”). Map of Alabasta with the Rainbase / Yuba / Erumalu / Alubarna / Katorea / Nanohana cities visible; Royal Army arrow vs Rebels arrow converging on Alubarna.

In Alubarna (pp. 13-14) the Royal Army prepares under Chaka: “More cannonballs!! Mount the cannon at the south gate!!” (KLUNK KLUNK KLUNK). Veteran soldier: “How could anyone believe it!? That’s right. I’ve served his majesty for ten years… Something bad has befallen his majesty!!” Another: “Lord Chaka, the enemy is said to number well over two million.” Chaka: “We must defend this kingdom with our lives!!! That’s why we have to win this battle!! Don’t let the enemy’s numbers discourage you!! For the sake of His Majesty, and for Princess Vivi…” Civilian evacuation in progress (WAH! EEK! WAH! — “We cannot guarantee your safety if you remain!! All civilians should evacuate the city!! Let’s get outta here!!”).

Cut to the kidnap-cell holding Cobra hostage (pp. 14-15) — Mr. 4 and Ms. Merry Christmas stand guard over a kneeling, gagged-or-bound Nefertari Cobra in some indoor location (apparently within Alubarna’s perimeter). Merry Christmas: “Looks like all hell’s finally breaking loose. Hurry up and start fighting already!! I’m bored!! Huh huh huh.” / “He may be a king… but I’m getting tired of babysitting him!! Tire! Ti! Hmph!” / “Yes! Do you hear me? You always respond so slow!” / Mr. 4 (slow-blink, the silent-character register continues from Ch. 160): “Agh! My back hurts!! My ba!” — speech-asymmetry pair grammar preserved. Merry Christmas: “Naturally, sneaking past the palace guards to kidnap him was something only WE could do. But why do we have to be stuck with him now? Anybody could do this! It’s so boring! Right, Mr. 4?!” First on-page reveal that King Cobra has been kidnapped from the palace — Operation Utopia’s missing-king component is operationally explained as a Mr. 4 / Merry Christmas covert extraction. Cobra (small panel, hands raised, eyes closed): “You must not fight!!! Chaka!!! Koza!!! You must not destroy each other!!! You are also this country!!!” — the king’s anti-civil-war doctrine delivered impotently from captivity.

The chapter closes with a four-frame parallel-grammar narrative caption sequence (pp. 16-18):

Final cliffhanger (p. 19) — wide-shot of distant Alubarna across the desert. A Karoo helmet in the dunes (WOO…); a fluttering jolly-roger flag (Straw Hat) on the sand (WOFF); silent dunes (“SILENCE”); then a massive DOOM!!! WAAAAAA!!! explosion sound + a “MEAT!!!!” shout. Luffy is alive — recovered from the Yuba sand-grave with his canonical post-revival hunger-word.

P. 20 — SBS Question Corner (Volume 20 sample): Buggy bleeding question, Oda’s zip-code dodge, Tashigi’s vitals canonized — 21 yrs old, 5’7” (height equivalent of 170 cm), Ace’s Mera Mera = type-1 (turn body into flames) + type-2 (Fire Fist) hybrid, Question Corner has begun (Duh).

  • Crocodile personally killed Toh-Toh at Yuba (pp. 6-7). First on-page Sand-Sand mummification kill of a named civilian character. Suna Suna no Mi is now demonstrated as a named-civilian execution weapon — kill-mode escalation from the Ch. 0170 would you like to become a mummy? threat-tier to actual on-page kill.
  • Crocodile personally defeated Luffy at Yuba — first on-page Luffy combat-defeat at Warlord-tier (pp. 7-9). Crocodile’s golden hook impales Luffy through the chest (KREEKK!!); slams him down; buries him in the engineered sandstorm. First on-page Luffy-defeated-to-the-death beat — captain-death-equivalent state. Pre-loads the forward-canon Luffy-Crocodile rematch arc and the Luffy-survives-via-crewmate-discovery recovery template.
  • Crocodile engineered the Yuba sandstorm (pp. 6, 9). “YUBA WILL DIE. That sandstorm will destroy it.” Confirms the artificial-weather thesis (Ch. 161 Dance Powder install) at the personal-sand-Logia-deployment tier — Crocodile uses his own fruit to engineer destructive weather events, not just Dance Powder agents. The Toh-Toh-aquifer-discovery (pp. 5-6) is immediately erased by the sand-vortex — Crocodile destroys the structural proof that Yuba could survive.
  • King Cobra is a Baroque Works hostage (pp. 14-15). Mr. 4 and Ms. Merry Christmas have kidnapped King Cobra from the palace and are holding him captive at an undisclosed Alubarna-adjacent location. Operation Utopia’s missing-king component is operationally explained. The Ch. 167 royal-army war-mobilization was launched under a secretly-captured monarch — the king his soldiers are fighting for is in enemy hands.
  • Cobra’s you are also this country anti-civil-war doctrine (p. 15). Captive Cobra: “You must not fight!!! Chaka!!! Koza!!! You must not destroy each other!!! You are also this country!!” — first on-page king-as-witness-to-civil-war beat; the doctrine extends his Ch. 167 the people ARE the kingdom doctrine to the rebels-and-royals-are-the-same-people synthesis.
  • Smoker hands command to Tashigi and leaves Alabasta (pp. 10-11). Smoker passes a small metallic object (Sea-Prism-Stone bullet) to Tashigi, delegates the field decision (“Decide for yourself”), and exits the arc on Marine-vehicle (“Something urgent came up. I’m heading out to sea.”). First on-page Tashigi-as-independent-field-commander beat — she immediately mobilizes the Marines toward Alubarna in pursuit of Straw Hat. Smoker’s “Pay close attention to what becomes of this country. Should it fall or should it survive…” is the first on-page Marine-witness-doctrine for the Alabasta civil war — Marines are positioned as observers/recorders, not interventionists.
  • Smoker’s history is about to be made doctrine (p. 11). “Whenever events like these occur, history is about to be made!!” — Smoker articulates the arc-as-history-pivot awareness. Marine-line-officer-as-historical-witness. Re-keys the Ch. 0099 Smoker force of fate historical-physics register at the kingdom-tier.
  • Big Pincers — giant red crabs — debut as Strawhat desert mounts (pp. 2-4). New giant-crab species named Pincers by the Strawhats. Carries the entire crew at speed across the Sandora; muscular giant red crab variety. First on-page non-camel non-Karoo Alabasta-desert mount.
  • Koza’s just you wait, Cobra rebel battle-cry (p. 12). First on-page Koza-direct-line-against-Cobra. The childhood-friend-of-Vivi from Ch. 163 is now in operational battle-mode declaring war on her father. “We will deliver Alabasta!! We won’t let you destroy it!!!” — Cobra is framed as the rebels’ enemy at the direct-address tier, not just at the diagnostic-shadow tier (Crocodile is still hidden from rebel intelligence).
  • Chaka’s defend the kingdom with our lives royal-army doctrine (p. 13). First on-page Chaka articulates Royal Army moral mandate against a numerically-superior rebel force. “The enemy is said to number well over two million.” — soldier intelligence overstates the Ch. 0167 700,000 rebels figure by ~3x; either soldier-fear-amplification or genuine intel-degradation. (Note discrepancy.)
  • Alubarna civilian evacuation underway (p. 14). First on-page civilian-evacuation-of-a-capital beat in the series. The Royal Army is operating with civilian populations already cleared from the battle-zone — the war is now infrastructure-vs-army, not city-population-vs-army.
  • Four-front convergence at Alubarna (p. 18). Strategic map explicitly shows five armed parties converging on Alubarna: Navy (Marines), Straw Hat Gang, Royal Army, Baroque Works, Rebel Forces.
