Forward-canon: this is the Suna Suna no Mi (Sand-Sand Fruit, Logia) — the moisture-drain is the secondary application of the fruit; the primary power (body-becomes-sand transformation) is not yet shown. The chapter previews the most lethal feature before revealing the fruit’s element. The fruit is the inverse-of-life mechanic (water-of-life extracted) — pre-loads Crocodile’s desert / death-by-thirst / sandstorm combat-grammar. Forward-canon fruit-name reveal at ~Ch. 0170.

Why this matters

The secondary-power-shown-first technique inverts Oda’s usual Devil-Fruit reveal grammar (element-debut → application-debut). For Crocodile, the moisture-drain is the more terrifying half of the fruit; showing it first establishes the boss-tier-villain combat-tier before the audience knows what kind of Devil Fruit it is. The Doru-Doru-no-Mi (Paramecia) has no defense against moisture-drain — pre-loads the Logia-tier-suppresses-Paramecia combat-grammar that recurs across the series.
